Reexamining Overuse Of Frequent Observation For New Admissions On Psychiatric Units To Increase Nurse/Patient Engagement, Samuel Novela
Reexamining Overuse Of Frequent Observation For New Admissions On Psychiatric Units To Increase Nurse/Patient Engagement, Samuel Novela
Master's Theses
People in California who suffer from mental health conditions are often admitted involuntarily to hospitals on 72 hour psychiatric evaluation holds if they are deemed imminently dangerous to themselves, or others, or are gravely disabled. Observational patient safety checks are performed and based on patient acuity and hospital standards. Variations exist among different clinical settings with regard to best practices and the patient subpopulations that may warrant less frequent safety checks. Nurses experience different levels of satisfaction with regard to frequency of safety checks because there is no national consensus on which subsets of patients may require them. A senior …

INTRODUCTION: The need to be able to assess collaborative practice in health care teams has been recognized in response to the direction for team-based care in a number of policy documents. The purpose of this study is to report on further refinement of such a measurement instrument, the Assessment of Interprofessional Team Collaboration Scale (AITCS) first published in 2012. To support this refinement, two objectives were set: Objective 1: to determine whether the items from the data collected in 2016 load on the same factors as found for the 2012 version of the 37-item AITCS. Objective 2: to determine whether …

Steve and Anita Canfield helped the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Turkey. They helped send blankets, coats, and washing machines to Syrian refugees. They were assigned to Frankfurt to assess refugee camps, soup kitchens, warehouses, and immigrant communities. The couple visited refugee camps and soup kitchens all over Europe to determine what was needed most by refugees.
The Canfields established the Friendship Center in Rome. The center offers classes in Italian, English, Italian, and a Red Cross course. It also has a gospel choir, a popular activity for primarily African refugees. The LDS Church has plans to …

Examination of 32 children with atopic dermatitis, complicated by staphylococcal infection. Revealed violations of B-cell, humoral immunity and phagocytic activity of neutrophils. The revealed violations of immunological parameters in children suffering from atopic dermatitis complicated by staphylococcal infection are the basis for the appointment of immunomodulators as part of complex therapy aimed at stimulating the B-cell and humoral immunity, as well as the phagocytic activity of neutrophils

Maternal Mortality In Non-Hispanic Black Women, Amelia Major
Maternal Mortality In Non-Hispanic Black Women, Amelia Major
Grace Peterson Nursing Research Colloquium
Background: The United States has the highest maternal mortality among all developed countries, among these mothers, non-Hispanic black women are three times more likely than women of any other racial group to die from pregnancy-related causes.
Purpose: To investigate racial disparities among pregnant women who die from pregnancy related causes (maternal mortality) and determine possible interventions to improve outcomes.
Methods: An integrative literature review was conducted to analyze peer-reviewed articles published from 2007 to 2018; a computerized search of literature was performed using Cumulative Index to Nursing and Health Literature (CINAHL), Proquest Nursing and Allied Health Sources, …

A Modified Method Of High Molecular Weight Adsorbable Organic Chlorine Measurement In Saline Water: Dialysis Pretreatment, Jiajian Liu, Li Ling, Yi Li, Chao Wang, Chii Shang

Adsorbable organic halogen is a mean to quantify total organic halogen, which is an important toxicity indicator in disinfection byproduct studies. However, quantification of low concentrations of adsorbable organic chlorine (AOCl) formation in seawater chlorination using the USEPAMethod 9020Bwas found inaccurate due to the presence of high concentrations of chloride. In this study, a dialysis-based pretreatment techniquewas proposed, optimized and adopted to eliminate the interference of chloride in quantifying low concentrations of AOCl inseawater. A volumetric ratio of dialysis samples to continuous-flow deionized water at 1:1200 was found sufficient to remove over 99% of chloride. As a result, chloride to …

ental caries is a transmissible bacterial infection whose prevalence and severity are affected by multiple factors. It occurs on a continuum, with cycles of demineralization and remineralization occurring over years. Much has been written about the effects of fluoride on the caries process, including public health interventions such as community water fluoridation and various types of professional applications. Despite this, caries remains a significant chronic disease. Public health scholars and agencies have recognized the need for multiple interventions in ensuring the adoption of healthier behaviors in populations. For this reason, it is important for oral health professionals to advocate legislatively …

Early childhood is a critical period for literacy development and US research has found that 35 per cent of children enter public schools with low levels of the skills needed to learn to read. Visiting US academic Professor Lynn Williams will present a lecture about how children acquire literacy skills on Thursday 8 November at Charles Sturt University (CSU) Bathurst Campus. Associate Professor Sharynne McLeod, from CSU’s School of Teacher Education, said that Professor Williams has a distinguished career in teaching and writing about speech and language development and disorders in children. “Her lecture, Contexts for facilitating emergent literacy skills, …

An Intermodal Approach To Identity Formation And Empowerment In The Latina Community, Amanda Bravo
An Intermodal Approach To Identity Formation And Empowerment In The Latina Community, Amanda Bravo
Lesley University Community of Scholars Day
For many in the Latinx community, the question of “Who am I?” depends heavily on your skin color, your gender, your hair texture, your accent, and other factors that distinguish you as non-caucasian, rather than on how many languages you speak, how well you can dance, your passion, or how deeply you love. Identity reflections are at the core of self-esteem and empowerment and can take place in a variety of settings, but unfortunately, many of these settings are tailored to the majority group as well as the individual running the exploration, leaving many Latinx individuals left out. This workshop was …
