Purpose

To describe and compare patient perceived barriers and motivators and decision-making conflict between two groups of hospitalized patients, those who receive flu vaccines and those who do not.

Data Sources

Data collection during 2003 included extracting data from databases and mailing two surveys to 436 discharged patients. One hundred eight (108) patients participated in the study.

Conclusions

Top barriers included fear of side effects from vaccine (35%) and fear of contracting the flu (30%). Top motivators for obtaining a flu vaccine included previous vaccination (93%) and provider recommendation (62%). Barriers, motivators and patient decisional conflict differed depending upon patient …

The present pilot study is a histological evaluation of mandibular condyles taken from minipigs that underwent either traditional mandibular advancement (bilateral sagittal split osteotomy), or a distraction osteogenesis procedure to advance the mandible. One pig received a bilateral sagittal split osteotomy with an immediate mandibular advancement of 14 mm, while another pig underwent distraction osteogenesis consisting of a gradual advancement of 2 mm per day to advance the mandible the same distance. The control animal received no surgery.

Objective To compare the ultimate tensile strength of the soldering joint from conventional torch technique and the welding joint from laser technology in three types of alloy, gold-palladium (Au-Pd) alloy, nickel-chrome (Ni-Cr) alloy and cobalt-chrome (Co-Cr) alloy using the ISO standard model. Materials and methods Fifty four specimens were prepared in accordance with ISO 6892 from three different alloys, Au-Pd alloy, Ni-Cr alloy and Co-Cr alloy. The purpose of this research was to determine a prevalence of degenerative joint disease in our pre-orthodontic adolescent patients age ten through seventeen. The prevalence was assessed according to gender. Severity of DJD was established for each patient and a "red flag" for diagnosis was identified. The purpose was also to establish norms for joint space for patients with and without degenerative joint disease. Correlations to distal condyle position and angle classification were described. 123 consecutive patients, 77 female and 46 male T1 NewTom records were reviewed. The purpose of this study was to determine if Rickett's posterio-anterior (P/A) cephalogram measurements could be obtained from Cone Beam Computerized Tomographic (CBCT) images taken on the NewTom QR-DVT 9000™.

Fifteen frontal cephalometric radiographs were chosen for good image quality, with no regard for patient age or gender. Each cephalogram was traced three times by the same operator using ZeroBase™ software. Landmarks were located and measured according to the Rickett's frontal analysis technique. Methods were devised for obtaining analogous measurements using CBCT images on the same group of patients.

While previous studies have shown that presence of bacteria in systemic circulation can cause infective endocarditis, there is no information on the specific amount of bacteria necessary to cause this condition. The purpose of this study was to establish the minimum level of circulating bacteria that will cause colonization of damaged heart valves in rats. Fifty-two Sprague-Dawley rats were anesthetized and their heart valves were damaged using an established protocol. A clinical isolate of Enterococcus faecalis was transformed with a plasmid bearing the luxF and Chloramphenicol cassettes to label the bacteria with the light-emitting protein. วัตถุประสงค์ เพื่อเปรียบเทียบความแข็งแรงพันธะเฉือนระหว่างโลหะผสม 2 ชนิด เมื่อทําการยึดติดกับอะคริลิก เรซินชนิดบ่มด้วยตัวเองโดยใช้วิธีการปรับสภาพผิวโลหะผสมลักษณะต่าง ๆ เพื่อนําไปประยุกต์ในการซ่อมแซมฟันปลอมบางส่วนถอดได้ชนิดโครงโลหะ วัสดุและวิธีการ นําโลหะผสมโครบอลต์-โครเมียม (Co-Cr) และโลหะผสมไททาเนียม (Ti-6A1-7Nb) มา เหวี่ยงเป็นชิ้นตัวอย่างขนาดเส้นผ่านศูนย์กลาง 11 มม. หนา 2.5 มม. แบ่งแต่ละชนิดออกเป็น 7 กลุ่ม กลุ่มละ 10 ตัวอย่าง: ไม่ได้ทําการปรับสภาพผิว(C), กรดกัด(E), เป่าทราย(S), กรด+เป่าทราย(ES), กรด+เป่าทราย+alloy primer[ESA], เป่าทราย alloy primer [SA] และ เป่าทราย + alloy primer + Panavin FSAP) จากนั้น ยึดด้วยอะครีลิกเรซินชนิดบ่มด้วยตัวเองทรงกระบอกเส้นผ่านศูนย์กลาง 5 มม. สูง 3 มม. รอ 30 นาที จนอะคริลิก เรซินแข็งเต็มที่ นําขึ้นตัวอย่างทั้งหมดไปแช่น้ําที่อุณหภูมิ 37°C นาน 24 ชม. บันทึกค่าความแข็งแรงพันธะเฉือน โดยใช้เครื่อง Lloyd@ Universal Testing ที่ความเร็วหัวทดสอบ 10 มม./นาที วิเคราะห์ผลทางสถิติโดยใช้ One-way ANOVA us: Independent Samples T-Test ผลการศึกษา ค่าเฉลี่ยของความแข็งแรงพันธะเฉือนสูงสุดในกลุ่มโลหะผสมโครบอลต์-ใครเมียมคือ กลุ่ม ESA (295.61 ±8.67N) และในกลุ่มโลหะผสม Ti-6A1-7Nb คือกลุ่ม SA (299.53 ± 5.14N) สรุป จากการ กษาแนะนําว่าวิธีที่เหมาะสมสําหรับการปรับสภาพผิวโลหะผสมก่อนทําการยึดกับอะครีลิกเรซินชนิดบ่มด้วยตัวเองในการซ่อมแซมฟันปลอมบางส่วนถอดได้ชนิดโครงโลหะในโลหะผสม ใครบอลต์ โครเมียมคือ การ ใช้กรดกัด ร่วมกับการเป่าทรายและการทา alloy primer และในโลหะผสม …

Objective To investigate the scattered radiation at bone-implant interfaces irradiated with a therapeutic radiation dose from three different dental implant surfaces in human bone model. Materials and methods Dry human mandible was used to measure the dose enhancement caused by scattered radiation from the three different implant surfaces [machined surface, titanium -coated (TiUnite) surface, hydroxyapatite (HA) -coated surface]. Radiation dose enhancement at distance of 0, 1, 2, and 3 mm from bone-implant interface was determined by thermoluminescent dosimetry using lithium fluoride single crystal chips as a radiation absorber. ปัญหาฟันสึกพบมากขึ้นในกลุ่มวัยรุ่นและผู้สูงอายุ ดังรายงานผู้ป่วยสูงอายุหญิง ที่มีฟันสึกและเสียวฟันมาก การจัดการทําได้โดยหาสาเหตุ ควบคุมป้องกันการสึก พร้อมทั้งประเมินเพื่อหาวิธีการรักษาที่เหมาะสม หลีกเลี่ยง วิธีการที่ยุ่งยากซับซ้อน การบูรณะด้วยวัสดุเรซินคอมโพสิตสามารถทําได้ในกรณีของการบูรณะทางด้านใกล้แก้ม เป็นทางเลือกแบบอนุรักษ์ในลักษณะวัสดุบูรณะกึ่งถาวร ผลการรักษาเป็นที่น่าพอใจ ผู้ป่วยสามารถยิ้มและเคี้ยวอาหารได้ปกติ

วัตถุประสงค์ การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาแนวโน้มของหลักสูตรและการจัดการศึกษาหลักสูตร ทันตแพทยศาสตรบัณฑิต จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย ที่จะมีความเหมาะสมสําหรับบริบทของประเทศไทยในระหว่างปี พ.ศ.2545-2564 วัสดุและวิธีการ การวิจัยครั้งนี้ใช้กระบวนการวิจัยเชิงพรรณนา ประเภทการวิจัยเชิงอนาคตปริทัศน์ แบบเอ็ดในกราฟฟิคเดลฟาย จากการสัมภาษณ์ผู้เชี่ยวชาญจํานวน 26 ท่าน นําคําสัมภาษณ์มาวิเคราะห์และสังเคราะห์เพื่อจัดทําแบบสอบถามเลยหายสําหรับ สอบถามความคิดเห็นของผู้เชี่ยวชาญจํานวน 25 ท่าน การวิเคราะห์ผลทางสถิติใช้โปรแกรมสําเร็จรูป SPSS เพื่อหาค่าร้อยละ มัธยฐาน ฐานนิยม ความแตกต่างระหว่างฐานนิยมกับมัธยฐาน และพิสัยระหว่างควยไทล์ ผลการศึกษา การวิจัยครั้งนี้ผู้เชี่ยวชาญมีความคิดเห็นว่าในอนาคตหลักสูตรต้องตอบสนองนโยบายปฏิรูประบบสุขภาพ สามารถผลิตบัณฑิตให้มีความรู้ความสามารถที่มีมาตรฐานเป็นที่ยอมรับของสังคม คิดเป็น ทําเป็น พูดเป็น สามารถเป็นที่พึ่งพา ของสังคม การจัดหลักสูตรจะมีการบูรณาการองค์ความรู้ในสาขาวิชาต่าง ๆ การจัดการเรียนการสอนจะมีการฝึกปฏิบัติงานร่วมกับ วิทยาศาสตร์สุขภาพสาขาอื่น การวัดและประเมินผลจะใช้วิธีการที่หลากหลายเพื่อให้สอดคล้องกับวัตถุประสงค์ของการเรียน อีกทั้งเปิดโอกาสให้นิสิตประเมินตนเอง การบริหารการศึกษาจะใช้แนวทางการบริหารแบบมีส่วนร่วม โดยยึดหลักธรรมาภิบาล และเศรษฐกิจพอเพียงการมีส่วนร่วมของคณาจารย์และภาวะผู้นําของคณบดีจะมีส่วนสําคัญในความสําเร็จของการพัฒนาหลักสูตร อย่างไรก็ดีการจัดหลักสูตรในอนาคตยังมีข้อจํากัดในการเสริมสร้างและปลูกฝังคุณธรรมและจริยธรรมให้บังเกิดแก่บัณฑิต สรุป ในการผลิตบัณฑิตให้มี “ความรู้คู่คุณธรรม” นั้น การจัดการศึกษาในอนาคตควรคํานึงถึงการพัฒนาคนให้สอดคล้องกับ กระบวนทัศน์ของ “การพัฒนาที่ยั่งยืน” ที่มุ่งเน้นการสร้างคนที่มีคุณธรรม จริยธรรม เพื่อการพัฒนาที่มีดุลยภาพระหว่าง เศรษฐกิจและสิ่งแวดล้อม อีกทั้งแนวคิดด้านวิทยาศาสตร์สุขภาพต้องอยู่บนฐานของ "กระบวนทัศน์สุขภาพแบบองค์รวม” ซึ่ง มุ่งเน้นการเสริมสร้างสุขภาวะทั้งมิติของกาย ใจ สังคมและจิตวิญญาณ

This background paper examines the dominant model of federal grant funding for primary care in the health care safety net: the community health center. It describes the history of the health center program and highlights key policy issues influencing health centers, such as Medicaid payment policies and medically underserved area designations. The paper also examines the recent presidential initiative to expand health centers, including a review of the process used to identify new grantees, an assessment of remaining gaps in capacity, an exploration of continuing challenges, and a discussion of unresolved policy questions.

Exercise-induced hypoalgesia is a well-established phenomenon in the literature. The underlying mechanisms responsible for this augmentation of pain perception are not completely understood. The specific mode and intensity of exercise that creates hypoalgesia remains equivocal. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to identify if any differences existed in the exercise-induced hypoalgesia of isometric gripping exercise (IGE) and treadmill exercise (TE). A repeated measures design was used to determine the differences in pain threshold between acute exposure to IGE and TE. Twelve healthy male volunteers served as our subjects. BACKGROUND: The channel catfish, Ictalurus punctatus, is invested with a high density of cutaneous taste receptors, particularly on the barbel appendages. Many of these receptors are sensitive to selected amino acids, one of these being a receptor for L-arginine (L-Arg). Previous neurophysiological and biophysical studies suggested that this taste receptor is coupled directly to a cation channel and behaves as a ligand-gated ion channel receptor (LGICR). Earlier studies demonstrated that two lectins, Ricinus communis agglutinin I (RCA-I) and Phaseolus vulgaris Erythroagglutinin (PHA-E), inhibited the binding of L-Arg to its presumed receptor sites, and that PHA-E inhibited the L-Arg-stimulated ion conductance …

Dental morbidity is a chronic problem that affects a child's ability to attend school, to learn, and to enjoy good health. Of all childhood diseases, oral disease ranks as one of the highest and is considered one of the most common and the least treated. The prevalence of dental caries is high among children and adolescents in school populations. This study explored the prevalence of dental caries in a California Central Coast middle school during the 2002-03 school year (N=526).
