Melan A, Protein Expression As A Diagnostic And Prognostic Factor In Canine Oral Melanomas, Anudep Rungsipipat, Chanin Kulprawit

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the relationship between Melan A protein expression, histopathological appearance, clinical data and proliferative marker indices for the diagnosis and prognosis of canine oral melanomas. A retrospective study was performed on biopsy specimens of 65 dogs submitted during the years of 2000 to 2003 to the Department of Pathology, Faculty of Veterinary Science, Chulalongkorn University. Our results revealed that Melan A protein expression was detected in 50.77% (33/65) malignant melanomas. The results did not show any significant differences between Melan A protein expression and histopathological classification, clinical data, average AgNORs and PCNA indices. …

Sjogren's syndrome, one of the most common autoimmune diseases, is characterized by cell-mediated lymphocytic infiltration of the exocrine glands, particularly the salivary and lacrimal glands. It receives little attention in the literature, and frequently goes unrecognized until progressive changes are apparent. This article aids nurse practitioners in diagnosing the disorder in its earliest stages and in initiating proper treatment.

In response to the emergence of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), the United States established national surveillance using a sensitive case definition incorporating clinical, epidemiologic, and laboratory criteria. Of 1,460 unexplained respiratory illnesses reported by state and local health departments to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention from March 17 to July 30, 2003, a total of 398 (27%) met clinical and epidemiologic SARS case criteria. Of these, 72 (18%) were probable cases with radiographic evidence of pneumonia. Eight (2%) were laboratory-confirmed SARS-coronavirus (SARS-CoV) infections, 206 (52%) were SARS-CoV negative, and 184 (46%) had undetermined SARS-CoV status because of …
