The Role Of Cytokines In Bovine Mastitis, Kittisak Ajariyakhajorn

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

Cytokines are protein mediators produced by the immune and nonimmune cells that are involved in the regulation of inflammation and immune responses. The availability of several recombinant bovine cytokines have led to the investigation of the potential of cytokines as prophylactic or therapeutic strategies in the control of bovine mastitis, the most expensive disease affecting the dairy industry. The main goals of cytokine therapy are to enhance the immune response in the mammary gland against pathogenic bacteria, to increase the efficacy of antibiotic treatment, and to enhance the specific immunity of mastitis vaccines. Important cytokines used in mastitis studies are …

The Role Of Leukotrienes In The Pathogenesis Ofsteroid-Sensitive Nephrotic Syndrome, Sevgi Mi̇r, Afig Hüseyi̇nov, Mehmet Kantar, Caner Kabasakal, Alphan Cura, Işıl Çoker

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Endogenous leukotrienes (LT) levels in plasma and urine samples, and LT levels released from stimulated leukocytes in vitro were examined in children with steroid sensitive nephrotic syndrome (SSNS). Plasma LT concentrations were found to be higher in the SSNS group than in healthy subjects. Subjects with SSNS were also shown to have high levels of urinary cysteinyl-LTs and LTB 4 , while healthy children had only urinary LTE 4 levels. In the second part of the study, peripheral leukocytes of patients and heatlhy children were stimulated by Ca ionophore, A23187. We detected significantly higher levels of LTs in patients with …
