Physical conditioning to improve levels of functional independence is a key rehabilitation process for many elderly adults. This Independent Study is a review of published information concerning exercise for the elderly population with special attention focused on progressive resistive weight training. The inclusion and participation in exercise has been shown to provide many benefits for improving physiological systems' functioning, and also reduce the systems' natural age decline. Exercise participation is therefore highly beneficial; whether it is aerobic, weight training, or recreational activity.
