A Comparative Population Study Of Small Vertebrates In The Uranium Areas Of The Upper Colorado River Basin Of Utah, Wilmer W. Tanner May 1965

A Comparative Population Study Of Small Vertebrates In The Uranium Areas Of The Upper Colorado River Basin Of Utah, Wilmer W. Tanner

Brigham Young University Science Bulletin, Biological Series

This paper constitutes a terminal report to the United States Atomic Energy Commission for contract AT(11-1)819. It provides not only a faunistic and floristic study of areas having a high and low surface radiation, but also includes a consideration of their general ecology. Major emphasis is placed on the variation of the external characteristics of the small vertebrates of these areas with a statistical analysis of those characters examined in the lizards. The study was conducted in southeastern Utah (Tanner 1963, see map) from October 1959 through 1964, and was conducted as a test of the variation effects of natural …

The Relationship Between Personality As Measured By The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory And Interest As Measured By The Kuder Preference Record, Robert Glen Knudsen May 1965

The Relationship Between Personality As Measured By The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory And Interest As Measured By The Kuder Preference Record, Robert Glen Knudsen

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Counselors frequently use batteries of psychological tests in helping students to select appropriate educational and occupational choices. The task of interpreting scores on a battery of tests to students is not at any time a simple undertaking. The trend toward emphasis on the importance of the relationship among the various scores in a battery of tests, has further complicated test interpretation.

Vocational choice theories suggest an interrelationship between vocational interests and personality characteristics. They further suggest that different educational majors and occupations require different types of vocational interest and personality characteristics. Two tests, The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (hereafter referred …

Factors Related To First Year College Success In A Selected Group Of Scholarship Recipients, Laverl C. Giles May 1965

Factors Related To First Year College Success In A Selected Group Of Scholarship Recipients, Laverl C. Giles

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

The idea of a scholarship program is almost as old as the oldest institution of higher learning. The universality of such a program is almost completely comprehensive throughout the world. Although the purpose of scholarship programs has varied as much as each of the institutions varies, in most of the situations the programs have been well acclaimed. The success of these programs in terms of the student has often been tested or at least scrutinized. This type of study has been attempted several times. However, both Harris (11) and Endler (7), in reviewing the literature from 1931 to 1959, report …

Sound Communication In The Uinta Ground Squirrel, Donna Mae Balph May 1965

Sound Communication In The Uinta Ground Squirrel, Donna Mae Balph

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Numerous investigators have studied sound communication in animals in recent years. Most of these studies have been on birds, insects, or cetaceans, particularly the dolphin. Most of the studies on terrestrial mammals have been of the natural history type, and the authors have given an orthographic rendition of any sounds produced by that particular species. Few definitive studies have been done. There have been a few attempts to determine cause and function of sounds in mammals (Arvola, lImen, and Koponen, 1962; Bartholomew and Collias, 1962; Rowell and Hinde, 1962; Andrew, 1963).

No quantitative studies on sound communication in Citellus have …

A Cephalometric Comparison Of The Chamula, Mayo And Navajo Indians, Norman C. Bunker May 1965

A Cephalometric Comparison Of The Chamula, Mayo And Navajo Indians, Norman C. Bunker

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

Lateral head x-rays were obtained on selected samples of 24 Chamula, 29 Mayo and 39 Navajo Indians for cephalometric comparison.

Cephalometric evaluation was carried out by means of the Bjork analysis. Mean values for each of the Indian groups were determined and compared with each other and with the mean values of a group of Swedish conscripts studied by Bjork. The mean values were statistically analyzed and and subjected to the Student's "t" test to determine the significant levels of differences.

Results revealed that in comparing the three Indian groups significant differences do appear. They are few and general concordance …

A Comparative Study Of Discomfort Experienced By Surgical Patients On Three Selected Postoperative Days, Lillian Barker Bartlett May 1965

A Comparative Study Of Discomfort Experienced By Surgical Patients On Three Selected Postoperative Days, Lillian Barker Bartlett

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

A descriptive survey was conducted to compare the discomfort experienced on three selected postoperative days to determine if there is one day identified by the patient as the most uncomfortable and to assess the symptoms of which he might complain. A checklist of twelve symptoms common to postsurgical patients was administered on the evenings of the second, third and fourth postoperative days by the researcher. Findings indicated that nineteen or 56 per cent of the thirty-four patients interviewed stated that the second day was most uncomfortable, nine or 27 per cent the third and six or 17 per cent the …

The Facial Complex Of The Mayo Indian: A Radiographic Cephalometric Study, David G. Webster May 1965

The Facial Complex Of The Mayo Indian: A Radiographic Cephalometric Study, David G. Webster

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

In order to investigate the characteristics of the facial complex of the Mayo Indian and to make comparisons between the facial complex of the Mayo Indian and the facial complex observed in other ethnic groups, measures of facial angles and linear relationships were obtained from a group of Mayo Indians in the state of Sonora, Mexico.

A simple of thirty subjects, seventeen boys and thirteen girls, with a mean age of 18.3 years was selected for this study. The criteria for selection was based on the integrity of the dental arches, occlusion and tooth morphology. Plaster casts and cephalometric x-rays …

Factors Which Deterred Twenty-Three Selected Patients From Utilizing Public Health Nursing Services, Lora Wood Welch May 1965

Factors Which Deterred Twenty-Three Selected Patients From Utilizing Public Health Nursing Services, Lora Wood Welch

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

A study was conducted to identify factors which deterred twenty-three selected epileptic patients from utilizing public health nursing services. The literature was reviewed in areas relating to factors which may contribute to or deter patients use of clinic or public health services.

The descriptive survey approach employing an interview guide was used. Data on the guide were classified in two areas: (1) personal characteristics and (2) participant responses. The participant responses were further categorized according to (1) perception of the public health department and public health nursing services, (2) perception of the needs of the epileptic patient and his parents, …

Pesticide Residues, J. William Cook, Sidney Williams Apr 1965

Pesticide Residues, J. William Cook, Sidney Williams

Food and Drug Administration Papers

METHODOLOGY for residue analysis has advanced rapidly during the current review period, from November 1962 through October 1964. Notable progress has been made in the development and refinement of methods of analysis by which any or all of a large number of pesticide residue chemicals can be detected and measured in one general operation. This is of particular significance because great interest has developed-outside the scientific community as well as within - in the possible presence of pesticide chemicals in all parts of our environment, including man himself. Only by the use of improved methodology will it be possible to …
