Processing Strategies And Recall Performance For Narrative Passages And Word Lists Of Negative And Neutral Affective Valence In Depression, Lora L. Sloan Dec 1997

Processing Strategies And Recall Performance For Narrative Passages And Word Lists Of Negative And Neutral Affective Valence In Depression, Lora L. Sloan

Theses and Dissertations

Depressed individuals have been found to exhibit memory deficits on tasks that require effortful processing. They have also been found to remember negative materials better than their nondepressed cohorts. While these findings are well-documented, there have been few studies designed to examine how and why these differences in recall occur. The present study examined prose passage and word list recall in depressed and nondepressed college students. Processing times and structure of recall were also examined to assist in determining how material was processed and remembered. Half of the passages and word lists utilized were of negative affective valence and half …

Comparison Of Epidural And Intravenous Fentanyl Patient-Controlled Analgesia After Cesarean Section Under Epidural Anesthesia With Chloroprocaine, Kim M. Larsen Jan 1997

Comparison Of Epidural And Intravenous Fentanyl Patient-Controlled Analgesia After Cesarean Section Under Epidural Anesthesia With Chloroprocaine, Kim M. Larsen

Theses and Dissertations

This study compared two methods of postcesarean fentanyl patient- controlled analgesia (PCA). Fentanyl was administered intravenously (PCAI) or epidurally (PCAE) following cesarean section under epidural chloroprocaine anesthesia. Twenty-one ASA I and II parturients were randomly assigned to receive fentanyl PCAI (n = 9) or PCA (n = 12). At surgical completion fentanyl 1.0 mcg/kg was given and the PCA initiated with a dose of 30 mcg, a lockout interval of 10 minutes, a maximum dose of 180 mcg/hr, and no basal rate. Data were collected over 24 hours including visual analog scale (VAS) pain scores, …

Tumor Immunity Following Adenovirus Mediated Herpes Simplex Thymidine Kinase Gene Transfer To Experimental Rat Gliomas, Maulik Raj Shah Jan 1997

Tumor Immunity Following Adenovirus Mediated Herpes Simplex Thymidine Kinase Gene Transfer To Experimental Rat Gliomas, Maulik Raj Shah

Theses and Dissertations

Previous studies have determined adenovirus mediated herpes simplex thymidine kinase gene transfer (AV-TK) to be effective for the treatment of experimental gliomas. In this study we report three distinct phenomenon. First, animals with complete regression of subcutaneous tumors upon intratumoral injections of AV-TK with concomitant Ganciclovir® (GCV) administration developed tumor immunity. These animals had the ability to reject a subsequent inoculum of lethal doses of tumor cells. This tumor immunity was long standing and protective as far as 6 months from the time of initial tumor ablation. Of interest, adoptive transfer of splenocytes from AV-TK treated-tumor ablated animals to naive …

Determination Of The Presence Of Antibiotics And Bacterial Pathogens With Their Susceptibility In Fresh Milk From The San Nicolas Community And The Cities Of Penipe, Guano, And Chambo In The Chimborazo Province, Lupe Marín

Theses and Dissertations

This study is entitled, “determination of the presence of antibiotics and bacterial pathogens with their susceptibility in fresh milk from the San Nicolas community and the cities of Penipe, Guano, and Chambo in the Chimborazo province”. It was funded by the Benson Institute of Brigham Young University and Nestle. The objectives were: 1) to determine the presence of antibiotics in fresh milk from the San Nicolas community and the cities of Penipe, Guano, and Chambo, 2) to determine the presence of bacterial pathogens in milk from the places previously mentioned, and 3) to detect the susceptibility of the isolated bacteria …

Nutritional And Food Situation Of Five Communities Of Canaviri, Colina Blanca, Villa Arriendo, Puente Arriba And Pocohata, Department Of La Paz, Bolivia, Juana F. Moraima Gonzáles Tapia

Theses and Dissertations

The following work seeks to address the necessity that the inhabitants of the impoverished regions in Bolivia experience, as is the case of the highland region of Paceno, which is the understanding of their nutritional and alimentary situation. We studied the communities of Canavari, Pocohata, Colina Blanca, Puente Arriba, and Villa Arriendo de la Provincia Ingavi, in the province of la Paz.
The studied variable was the nutritional sta te, having as parameters: physical and economical availability of the food, food consumption, nutritional habits, biological usage of the food, basic sanitary conditions, and the educationallevel of the heads of family. …
