Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Objective:

The role of the anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) as an indicator of physical and reproductive health in men is unclear. We assessed the relationships between AMH and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), testosterone, and metabolic parameters, in a cohort of expectant fathers.

Design:

ORIGINS Project prospective cohort study. Setting: Community-dwelling men.

Participants:

Partners of pregnant women attending antenatal appointments.

Main Outcome Measures:

Serum AMH, FSH, LH, testosterone, and metabolic parameters. Results: In 485 expectant fathers, median age 33 years, median AMH was 40 pmol/L (quartiles 29, 56). AMH was inversely correlated with FSH, age, and body mass index (BMI) …

Clinical Utility Of Anti-Mullerian Hormone In Pediatrics, Roopa Kanakatti Shankar, Tazim Dowlut-Mcelroy, Andrew Dauber, Veronica Gomez-Lobo

Pediatrics Faculty Publications

CONTEXT: Anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH) was originally described in the context of sexual differentiation in the male fetus but has gained prominence now as a marker of ovarian reserve and fertility in females. In this mini-review, we offer an updated synopsis on AMH and its clinical utility in pediatric patients.

DESIGN AND RESULTS: A systematic search was undertaken for studies related to the physiology of AMH, normative data, and clinical role in pediatrics. In males, AMH, secreted by Sertoli cells, is found at high levels prenatally and throughout childhood and declines with progression through puberty to overlap with levels in females. …

A naturally occurring bovine model with excess follicular fluid androstenedione (High A4), reduced fertility, and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)-like characteristics has been identified. We hypothesized High A4 granulosa cells (GCs) would exhibit altered cell proliferation and/or steroidogenesis. Microarrays of Control and High A4 GCs combined with Ingenuity Pathway Analysis indicated that High A4 GCs had cell cycle inhibition and increased expression of microRNAs that inhibit cell cycle genes. Granulosa cell culture confirmed that A4 treatment decreased GC proliferation, increased anti-Müllerian hormone, and increased mRNA for CTNNBIP1. Increased CTNNBIP1 prevents CTNNB1 from interacting with members of the WNT signaling pathway thereby …

Serum Anti Mullerian Hormone And Renalase Levels In Predicting The Risk Of Preeclampsia, Zehra Jamil, Sana Shahid, Erum Baig, Rida Ahmad, Faryal Subhani, Syeda Sadia Fatima Mar 2019

Serum Anti Mullerian Hormone And Renalase Levels In Predicting The Risk Of Preeclampsia, Zehra Jamil, Sana Shahid, Erum Baig, Rida Ahmad, Faryal Subhani, Syeda Sadia Fatima

Department of Biological & Biomedical Sciences

Objective: The aim of the study was to explore the association of serum AMH and Renalase with the risk of preeclampsia thereby assessing them as screening tools, reducing the risk of gravid consequences of preeclampsia.
Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study recruited n = 95 pregnant women between 14 and 32 gestational weeks. They were categorized as a) women with gestational hypertension (n = 45); b) women with pre-eclampsia (n = 20) and c) normotensive pregnant women (n = 30) according to the ACOG criteria. Anthropometrics data and blood and urine samples were collected. AMH and Renalase levels were measured …

College of Nursing Faculty Research and Publications

Abstract

Objective

To explore the association of hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal activity with ovarian functioning in women with and without chronic abdominal pain (CAP).

Design and Setting

A secondary data analysis was performed with data from female participants in a natural history protocol at the National Institutes of Health.

Participants

A total of 36 women (age range = 19–39 years, mean = 27.11 years) were included in the study.

Methods

This pilot study was conducted with a subset of participants enrolled in a natural history protocol conducted in the Hatfield Clinical Research Center at the National Institutes of Health. The parent study included …

Two Case Studies Assessing The Effect Of Oral Contraceptive Pills Upon Serum Amh Concentrations: Results From An External Quality Assurance (Eqa) Scheme, Emily Zuvela, Melanie Walls, Phillip Matson Mar 2013

Two Case Studies Assessing The Effect Of Oral Contraceptive Pills Upon Serum Amh Concentrations: Results From An External Quality Assurance (Eqa) Scheme, Emily Zuvela, Melanie Walls, Phillip Matson

Research outputs 2013

Objective: To describe the effect of combined oral contraceptives (COC) on serum AMH level in 2 women.

Methods: The COC was initially stopped after over 12 years use then restarted, with the serum being analysed by 6–8 laboratories in an EQA scheme using the same assay (Beckman Coulter Gen II).

Results: In both women, the AMH rose significantly after cessation of the pill, and then dropped after resumption.

Conclusions: In summary, AMH was affected by the combined oral contraceptive pill and further studies on the effect of oral contraceptives are warranted.
