Glioblastoma (GBM) is well known to have one of the poorest prognoses among all cancers. Patients with GBM in progression-free survival (PFS) may be relatively stable and can often maintain their quality of life. Thus, PFS is a desirable goal. In Japan, the median PFS is 11 months. It is difficult to grasp a patient's thoughts and hopes when, after PFS, they are readmitted due to recurrence or acute deterioration. Therefore, this study aimed to describe the lived experience of illness in patients with recurrent GBM, focusing on PFS. We enrolled five patients into the study; however, only four patients …

I am a Pharmacist and a 2014 graduate of the Jefferson College of Pharmacy. Currently, I work in a retail pharmacy that is located inside an infectious disease clinic. Most of my patients are HIV positive and receive comprehensive care in the clinic. Every day I interact with CMA's, nurses, social workers, laboratory professionals, an addiction counselor, psychiatrists and prescribers. Greetings to all as we embark upon the last weeks of 2017! This fall has been a busy time for JCIPE in many different ways. At the end of September, thirteen JCIPE staff, faculty and students attended the Collaborative Practice conference held in Banff, Alberta, Canada. JCIPE delivered one invited pre-conference workshop and five peer-reviewed, accepted live presentations focusing on a wide range of our activities including Hotspotting, the Health Mentors Program, the Jefferson Teamwork Observation Guide (JTOG) and programmatic sustainability. Heart Disease has many different risk factors, including hypertension (high blood pressure) and high cholesterol. Research has shown that hypertension can be identified as early as adolescence, and preventative measures can be instilled in this age. However, the relationship between hypertension, high cholesterol, race, and income have not been studied in detail among adolescents. The present study analyzed the effects of different health factors on blood pressure and cholesterol levels in Caucasian and African-American girls ages 9-21 years old, the prime of adolescence. Reaction To Safety Equipment Technology In The Workplace And Implications: A Study Of The Firefighter’S Hood, Brian W. Ward

The Qualitative Report

In the 1990s the firefighter’s hood became a standard article of safety equipment worn by municipal firefighters, eliciting a negative reaction among many of these firefighters. I used data from interviews with 42 firefighters to explain why this reaction occurred. Data analysis revealed that negative reactions ultimately stemmed from the hood’s disruption of autonomy, repudiation of the complex mental and physical skill needed to perform tasks required of firefighters, and hindrance in negotiating the life-threatening environment created by a fire. Objective: Present a clinical case detailing the evaluation and treatment of an idiopathic obturator internus strain in a collegiate tennis player. Background: Isolated injury to the obturator internus muscle is uncommon. In cases that do present, patients often report often report a mechanism for injury involving falling or kicking. In previously reported cases, diagnosis is confirmed by magnetic resonance imaging. Treatment: Patient presented to the athletic training clinic complaining of left hip external rotator tightness and pain, and was unable to recall a mechanism of injury. Purpose: To determine the prevalence, incidence, risk, rate, and type of injury and illness suffered by collegiate and high school marching band (MB) and color guard (CG) members and determine if there is a need for medical coverage. Methods: Articles were identified from: PubMed, CINAHL, MEDLINE, Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine Collection, ScienceDirect, and single-citation matching using search string, ["marching band" OR "color guard" OR "marching athlete" AND injury] from January 1990-to-October 2016, resulting in 141 articles. Background: Among healthy (asymptomatic) subjects and patients, the relationship between performance on the Head Shake Sensory Organization Test (HS-SOT) and performance on the Dynamic Visual Acuity (DVA) testing has not been reported. The purpose of this study was to establish normative data for the HS-SOT and compare performance on the HS-SOT and the DVA test. Hypothesis: A strong positive correlation would exist between the DVA and the HS-SOT. Study Design: A cross-sectional design was used. Level of Evidence: Level 3. Objective: Present a clinical case detailing the effectiveness of dry cupping therapy in treating thoracic outlet syndrome. The utilization of dry cupping therapy on a 20-year-old collegiate baseball pitcher with diagnosed thoracic outlet syndrome is presented. Background: Thoracic outlet syndrome is a relatively rare musculoskeletal condition affecting 1/100,000 patients annually. Dry cupping therapy is an ancient therapeutic modality that utilizes various means of suction with the goal of decompressing myofascial layers. Treatment: Following diagnosis, patient was successfully treated in two weeks using dry cupping therapy.
