Prevalence Of Salmonella Enterica, Escherichia Coli And Staphylococcus Aureus In Raw Meat In Thai Self-Service Style Restaurants In Khon Kaen Municipality, Sunpetch Angkititrakul, Arunee Polpakdee, Rungtip Chuanchuen

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

One hundred and fifty eight raw meat samples were collected from 33 Thai self-service style restaurants in Khon Kaen municipality during July-October 2011. The fresh meat included pork, beef and chicken and was provided for self-grilling or boiling. All the samples were examined for contamination of three major foodborne pathogens including Salmonella enterica, Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus using standard protocol. High prevalence of S. enterica (44%), E. coli (60%) and S. aureus (25%) was observed. Seventy-seven percent of the samples were positive for at least one of the three pathogens, while only 8% were found to carry all three …

Effectiveness Of A Portable, Large-Area Ultraviolet Germicidal Device, Mark P. Buttner, Thomas Yee, Patricia Cruz, Vanessa Stevens

Nevada Journal of Public Health

Effective disinfection of the hospital environment is a key component in the prevention of healthcare-associated infections. The objective of this project was to evaluate the effectiveness of an ultraviolet germicidal device in reducing the concentrations of culturable bacteria on indoor surfaces. The ultraviolet germicidal device was installed and operated in four experimental trials conducted in a microbiology research chamber. Agar plates inoculated with known concentrations of two test microorganisms were placed on benches inside the chamber at two distances, 1.5 meters and 3.0 meters from the machine, for exposure times of 5 minutes, 10 minutes, and 20 minutes. With test …

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

To investigate whether prostatic inflammation affects the contractile responses of prostate tissue and then whether melatonin has any restorative effect on the contractile responses in a rat model of bacterial prostatitis at early stages. Materials and methods: We evaluated the nerve-evoked, adrenergic agonist-induced or cholinergic agonist-induced contractions of isolated prostate tissue at 24 and 72 h after intraurethrally instilled Escherichia coli-treatment. We also analyzed the histological changes in the prostate. Secondarily, we investigated the effect of melatonin pretreatment (7 days, 10 mg kg^{-1} day^{-1}) on the contractile responses and the histopathologic changes. Results: The degrees of acute inflammatory cell infiltration, …
