This clinical case describes a three-year-old male raccoon (Procyon lotor), castrated, from La Lajita Oasis ParkZoological Park (Spain) which showed lack of appetite, state of mental depression and mild dehydration. Duringclinical examination an abscess was detected in the left ventrolateral area of the neck as well as clinical signscompatible with Horner’s Syndrome in the left eye. A hypersensitivity test was carried out by sympatheticinnervation with topical epinephrine 0.0001% and results suggested the presence of second-order Horner’s Syndromeformed by pressure from the abscess on the sympathetic innervation of the left eye. Plasmid Profiles Of Multidrug-Resistant Escherichia Coli From Clinically Healthy Swine, Khin Khin Lay, Nisit Chansong, Rungtip Chuanchuen

A total of 145 Escherichia coli isolates originated from clinically-healthy pigs were analyzed for plasmidprofiles. All but one isolate (n=144) carried one to nine plasmids with size ranging from 0.7-16.2 Mda. Fifty-sixplasmid profiles were defined based on sizes and numbers of plasmids in each strain, of which the most commonpatterns were 15.8, 4, 3.3, 1.7, 1.3 Mda and 16.2, 15.8, 4, 3.3, 2.3, 1.7, 1.3, 1, 0.7 Mda. The results indicate widedistribution of plasmids among the commensal E. coli isolates originated from clinically-healthy pigs.

A 4-year-old Chios ewe was submitted to the Clinic of Farm Animals (School of Veterinary Medicine, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki). The animal had delivered 2 healthy lambs, 2 days earlier, and was inappetent, depressed, and reluctant to move, while it had tachycardia and tachypnea. The cervix was opened at a dilation of 1 finger in diameter and fetid fetal membranes expelled from the vagina. Serum biochemistry revealed renal and liver disease, while ultrasonography revealed uterine dilatation. Laparotomy revealed a partly autolysed embryo in the uterus and gangrenous metritis. The present work, among other previous studies done in our lab, aimed to highlight the histopathological effect of S. xylosus peptidoglycan in comparison to LPS of E. coli. Materials and methods: One hundred and fifty urine specimens were collected from urinary tract infection patients visiting Baghdad hospitals. The histopathological effects of S. xylosus S24 peptidoglycan was studied in the urinary tract of female mice by injecting 5 animal groups at the following concentrations: 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000, and 5000 µg/mL.
