Strong Hearts Program: The Results Of A Novel Primary-Care Based Diagnostic And Referral Program For Chagas Disease In East Boston, Ma, Usa, Javier J. Huerta

Purpose: Chagas disease (CD), a neglected parasitic infection, affects ~300,000 people in the US. Untreated, CD leads to irreversible cardiac morbidity and death in 20-30% of cases, yet

Methods: After provider and community sessions, 14,354 patients were screened at EBNHC from March 2017 - May 2023, following a prespecified protocol. Confirmed Chagas patients were referred to Boston Medical Center for further evaluation. Using chi-squared tests, we analyze diagnostic uptake and prevalence stratified by demographics. Additionally, we abstracted care continuum barriers from Chagas patients' records.

Background: FAP is a rare genetic disorder classically inherited in an autosomal dominant pattern, which affects about 1 in 8 300 individuals (1). The Hispanic population has limited data regarding the spectrum of FAP mutation and clinical manifestation, although there is significant anecdotal evidence that the prevalence might be higher, with one only known Hispanic familial cancer registry in Puerto Rico (2).

Background: Tobacco use doubles the risk of developing colorectal cancer (CRC). Early detection screening for CRC should begin at 50y of age and be repeated at least every 10y. African Americans have a higher incidence of colorectal cancer when compared to Georgia and national rates.

Methods: Anonymous surveys were given to public housing residents (majority AA, low-income, n=155) at five sites from the Augusta Housing Authority, with questions about smoking status and when their last colonoscopy was performed. Experiencing increased levels of distress by the caregiver may be the deciding factor for the elder remaining in the home or being placed in a long-term facility for care. In the US, colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths. According to the 2018 CDC Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System survey, 68.8% of US adults between 50 and 75 were up to date on colorectal screening (CRCS) across all screening modalities. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, screening has dropped even further and is still 50% below pre-pandemic levels. At Jefferson, our CRCS rate is below the national average at 55.4%. Introduction: Anterior cruciate ligament injuries occur over 200,000 times annually in the United States alone (Brophy, et al. 2009). This injury strains the healthcare system and affects the players, teams, parents, and the organization they are a part of. There have been, however, clinically researched risk factors that predispose athletes to ACL injury (Gignac, et al. 2015; Laible, et al. 2014).
