Syntheses And Antimicrobial Activities Of Some 4-Aza-Sitostane Derivatives, Hassan Y. Aboul-Enein Jan 1969

Syntheses And Antimicrobial Activities Of Some 4-Aza-Sitostane Derivatives, Hassan Y. Aboul-Enein

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Research into the chemical and pharmacological properties of azasteroids has become of interest because of their potential value as pharmacodynamic and chemotherapeutic agents. A nitrogen atom, for example, would be able to interact, unlike carbon, with a variety of sites in enzymes by means of ionic-ionic, ionic-dipole, dipole-dipole and hydrogen.bonds. Azasteroids having a nitrogen, atom might be adsorbed more strongly or in a different orientation to a given enzyme, and also may produce.a different biologic effect with a new spectrum of biological activities. The pharmacological.activities of a number of synthetic azasteroids, have been reported.

This investigation is concerned with the …

A Survey Of The Helminth Parasites Of Pheasants From Brown County, South Dakota, Donald E. Gilbertson Jan 1962

A Survey Of The Helminth Parasites Of Pheasants From Brown County, South Dakota, Donald E. Gilbertson

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This paper presents a study of the helminth endoparasite of the Chinese or ring-necked pheasant (Phasianus colchicus). The digestive and respiratory tracts of 262 pheasants, all of which were collected in Brown County, South Dakota, were examined. Collections were ,made from January, 1961, through November of the same year. The problem was divided as follows: (1) locating and Identifying the helminth parasites, (2) relating parasitism to the age of the birds, (3) ascertaining the seasonal distribution of the parasites, and (4) determining what gross pathological changes were due to parasitism. Previous to this study, little or no literature was available …

The Incidence Of Human Infestation With Trichinella Spiralis As Revealed By The Examination Of 570 Diaphragms At The Louisville General Hospital, Louisville, Kentucky., Letitia S. Kimsey

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

With the advent of improved methods of examination of muscle tissue for the presence of Trichinella spiralis and the detection of trichinosis by the skin and precipitin tests, there has been an awakening of interest in the disease which has resulted in a greatly increased volume of statistical data. The present survey was undertaken with the thought in mind that it might be of statistical interest to determine the incidence of infestation with Trichinella spiralis in patients coming to autopsy at the Louisville General Hospital. This incidence was determined by the examination of the diaphragms of these patients.

A Study Of Atropa Belladonna, (Linne) Grown In South Dakota, Floyd J. Leblanc

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The economic importance of Atropa Belladonna has long been recognized because of the valuable alkaloids which it contains. Belladonna belongs to the Solanaceae or Nightshade family, which is composed of about 1500 species, many of these also being of economic importance. At the academy of Agriculture in Klansenburg since 1916, two constant deviations from the normal variety of Atropa Belladonna L. have been grown. They are Atropa Belladonna var. flava and Atropa Belladonna var. intermediata. The alkaloidal content is higher than that of the normal variety. Belladonna, grown in other parts of the country, undoubtedly has been thoroughly studied in …
