Purpose/Background

Hypoxia is a severe adverse event that is often associated with sedated endoscopy procedures, and bariatric patients have a significantly higher risk for complications related to oxygenation during sedation due to pathophysiological changes to the respiratory system. This scoping review compares the rate of hypoxemic events with the use of a binasal cannula versus a procedural oxygen mask during inpatient endoscopic procedures in patients aged 19-64 with a BMI greater than 40.

Methods

Purpose/Background

The induction of anesthesia using hypnotic sedatives, such as etomidate and midazolam, is common practice. Etomidate and midazolam are commonly employed in the induction of anesthesia in the septic patient population, each with its unique advantages and drawbacks. This scoping review aims to synthesize evidence on the effects of anesthetic induction with etomidate versus midazolam in adult septic patients, focusing on the incidence of mortality and associated adverse effects during hospitalization. Although more commonly diagnosed in adults, type 2 diabetes is increasingly diagnosed in pediatric populations in the United States. Research suggests a correlation between depression and type 2 diabetes, however, a gap in research exists regarding depression and type 2 diabetes among pediatrics, specifically adolescents. Background: Early infancy food insecurity (FI) is linked to poor health later in life, and Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs) are often overlooked. Routine FI screening can help identify and assist the families suffering from FI seen in the NICU before being discharged home.

Depression in adolescents is rising each year. Early detection of depression has been shown to result in better health outcomes and success in school. This scoping review aims to evaluate the implementation of universal depression screenings in the high school setting and how this detection of depression and initiation of treatment.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a common, chronic disease that increases the risk of coronary artery disease and stroke fourfold, which makes protecting cardiac function a priority. The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline is a mental health-specific emergency line that became nationally available in July of 2022. This resource allows callers in crisis to connect with trained mental health professionals. The purpose of this quality improvement project is to provide and increase educational awareness and knowledge regarding iron deficiency anemia (IDA) in pregnant patients at an urban primary care clinic in Memphis, TN. Postoperative delirium impacts as many as 51% of surgical patients, resulting in increased mortality and morbidity, longer hospital stays, and increased healthcare costs. Adults ≥ 65 have a high risk for developing delirium. This scoping review examines the use of dexmedetomidine in the perioperative period in adults ≥ 65 years old to prevent and treat postoperative delirium.

This retrospective chart review examined female patients (N=25) who had a postpartum hemorrhage. Electronic medical records from Regional One Health were queried for ICD-10 072 related codes from January 1, 2021-October 31, 2023. Of those, a maximum of 25 charts were identified and the information was deidentified. All data was de-identified, coded, encrypted, housed, and locked securely. The terahertz speed CMOS microprocessor that has been designed by Averoses Incorporated (US11063118B1) utilizes nano-vacuum tube elements with plasma interconnect of those elements, and has the capability to emit, detect, conduct, and analyze electromagnetic signals in the terahertz range. Nano-vacuum tube systems are resistant to ionizing radiation and to high temperatures, and there are emergent potentials of such systems beyond the obvious speed-up of data processing. The deoxyribose moiety of a nucleotide in the DNA molecule can act as a quantumlogic gate, in which the enantiomeric shift between the C2-endo and C3-endo conformations of each nucleotide, occurs within a logically and thermodynamically reversible situation of electron spin qubits, that are coherently held within the topologically insulating DNA crystalline nanostructure, and that are coherently conducted along the delocalized electrons of the pi-stacked nucleotide base pairs. Background: Tennessee ranks sixth nationwide for most deaths related to heart disease. The Tennessee Heart Health Network (TN-HHN), an initiative coordinated by the Tennessee Population Health Consortium (TN-PHC), was created to combat this issue. The TN-HHN is a statewide network of primary care practices, health systems, and academic centers committed to implementing patient-centered outcomes research (PCOR) approaches to demonstrably improve cardiovascular disease (CVD) health outcomes and health equity across Tennessee.

Objective: Evaluate stakeholder experiences in participating in the Network in an effort to assess partner satisfaction and improve the TN-HHN as a whole.

Purpose/Background:

There is limited research aimed at addressing the reoccurrence of admission rates for first-episode psychosis. Research shows that early interventions for first-episode psychosis lead to remissions and prevention of relapses. Research also estimates that approximately one-half of first-episode clients have a history of cannabis abuse or dependence and one-third have a current cannabis use disorder (Wisdom et al., 2011). This study looks to determine whether Medication-assisted therapy (MAT) impacts readmission rates for patients who have substance use disorder and first-episode psychosis within six months of discharge.

Study designs include two randomized control trials, one systematic review, four quasi-experimental studies, one case study, two case series, and one pilot case study. All studies relate directly to components of the evidence-based practice question and will be used to draft new practice guidelines for using constraint-induced movement therapy (CIMT) or modified constraint-induced movement therapy (mCIMT) in occupational therapy practice.

Students met with a community OT practitioner who specializes in driving rehabilitation. The community practitioner identified a potential gap in referrals for individuals with cognitive impairment and on-road driving assessments. Due to the scarcity of driving rehabilitation practitioners, it is important to provide effective evaluation and interview. By identifying clients who are past the potential for safe on-road driving performance due to their score on a status examination, practitioners can reach more clients in a more efficacious manner.
