Persons with complicated grief experience a disruption of usual, pre-death activities, destructive thoughts and actions, and can develop or find a worsening of comorbidities and impairments. Nonadherence to radiation therapy schedules is a documented problem among head and neck cancer patients. This retrospective dissertation study examined whether demographics, clinical characteristics, or physical and psychological symptoms were related to nonadherence in head and neck cancer patients. The electronic medical records of 262 head and neck cancer patients at a southeastern U.S. cancer center were reviewed to determine whether nonadherence was related to symptom scores and other patient and clinical-related factors. Clinician numeracy (CN), the ability to use and understand quantitative data in patient care, is an important skill for healthcare professionals. Nonetheless, it is recognized that many healthcare professionals, including doctors, have deficiencies in CN, and that this may affect patient safety. In our previous research using the Medical Interpretation and Numeracy Test (MINT), we found that many doctors in training in the UK had low CN. There are currently no published scoring instruments with prior empirical evidence to support the validity and reliability of the accuracy of the drug withdrawal scores generated in infants greater than 28 days of life with a diagnosis of Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS). This study was done to identify the signs of withdrawal in infants greater than 28 days of life with NAS and determine if further adaptation of the modified-FNAST was necessary to accurately measure the severity of drug withdrawal in this sub population of infants.
