The study purpose was to assess the effects of guided imagery on sedation levels, sedative and analgesic volume consumption, and physiological responses of patients being weaned from mechanical ventilation. Forty-two patients were selected from two community acute care hospitals. One hospital served as the comparison group and provided routine care (no intervention) while the other hospital provided the guided imagery intervention. The intervention included two sessions, each lasting 60 minutes, offered during morning weaning trials from mechanical ventilation. Measurements were recorded in groups at baseline and 30- and 60-minute intervals and included vital signs and Richmond Agitation-Sedation Scale (RASS) score. …

Introduction: The ability to function as an effective member of the healthcare team is essential for graduate nurses upon entry into practice. Team training is therefore, an important element of nursing education. A convenient and cost-effective approach to providing team training to nursing students is through the TeamSTEPPS® curriculum. The purpose of the study was to determine if an intentional integration of TeamSTEPPS® principles into simulation-based team training modules would improve attitudes toward teamwork in a cohort of undergraduate nursing students. Methods: A quasi–experimental time series nonequivalent control group design was used. A convenience sample of 115 first semester students …

Background
Gluten sensitivity and the incidence of Celiac disease are ever increasing. The aim was to measure the effectiveness of an enzyme based dietary supplement on the reduction of symptoms encountered upon the consumption of gluten.
Results
The data showed a statistically significant improvement when compared to the placebo group in the following categories: pain, bloating, emptying of bowels, hunger pains, rumbling of stomach, lower energy levels, headaches, and food cravings. There was no statistically signficant improvement in the following symptoms: comfort, nausea, and loss of appetite.
Conclusion
Overall, the dietary supplement, Glutalytic, reduced many of the symptoms that are …

Ray-finned fishes (Actinopterygii) are the dominant vertebrate group today (+30 000 species, predominantly teleosts), with great morphological diversity, including their dentitions. How dental morphological variation evolved is best addressed by considering a range of taxa across actinopterygian phylogeny; here we examine the dentition of Polyodon spathula (American paddlefish), assigned to the basal group Acipenseriformes. Although teeth are present and functional in young individuals of Polyodon, they are completely absent in adults. Our current understanding of developmental genes operating in the dentition is primarily restricted to teleosts; we show that shh and bmp4, as highly conserved epithelial and mesenchymal genes for …

The Internet has become one of the most used forms of health communication media. Using the Health on the Net code of conduct, this study examined the quality of health information available on the Internet for one of the United State's fastest growing minorities, Hispanics. When comparing Hispanic-targeted websites with those that target the majority population, this study found significant differences with respect to quality. Specifically, sites targeting Hispanics had a lower level of quality than those that targeted the majority population. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
