Tandem Mass Spectrometry In Newborn Screening, Sandra Banta-Wright, Robert Steiner
Faculty Publications - College of Nursing
Since 1961 newborn screening for errors of metabolism (EM) has improved the diagnosis, treatment and outcome of newborns with an EM. Recently, advances in laboratory technology with tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) has increased the identification of newborns with an EM. With a single dried filter paper blood spot (Guthrie R, Susi A. A simple phenylalanine method for detecting PKU in large populations of newborn infants. Pediatrics. 1963;32:338-343). MS/MS can identify more than 30 disorders of metabolism This review will explore MS/MS to provide a better understanding of the development and application of this technology to newborn screening for perinatal and …

Microwaves, drive-through windows, cell phones, e-mail, Internet high-ways- fast, faster, fastest. These gadgets reflect the world of the 21st century in which we live. Nursing, too, has moved with these changing cultural norms, becoming compressed and high speed. However, the essence of people, the clients we care for, has remained that of heart-felt needs and a thirst for spiritual peace. How do we as nurses meet the demands of today’s increased patient care loads, unending paperwork and longer hours, yet still meet our clients’ spiritual needs?
Validity And Comparisons Of Tibiofemoral Angles And Translations Using A New Femoral Tracking Device (Ftd) During Walking, Jeff Houck, H. John Yack, Tyler Cuddeford
Validity And Comparisons Of Tibiofemoral Angles And Translations Using A New Femoral Tracking Device (Ftd) During Walking, Jeff Houck, H. John Yack, Tyler Cuddeford
Faculty Publications - College of Physical Therapy
First, this study compares tibiofemoral motion during walking using a new femoral tracking device (FTD) and bone mounted markers in a single subject (n=1). The results suggest errors ofn=13). The results suggest similar tibiofemoral angles in the sagittal and frontal planes using the two methods (average root mean square (RMS) differencesP
Relationship Between Static Mobility Of The First Ray And First Ray, Midfoot, And Hindfoot Motion During Gait, Mary K. Allen, Tyler J. Cuddeford, Ward M. Glasoe, Lisa M. Dekam, Pamela J. Lee, Kelli J. Wagner, H. John Yack

The relationship between a static measure of dorsal first ray mobility and dynamic motion of the first ray, midfoot, and hindfoot during the stance phase of walking was investigated in healthy, asymptomatic subjects who represented the spectrum of static flexibility. Static first ray mobility of 15 subjects was measured by a load cell device and ranged from stiff (3.1 mm) to lax (8.0 mm). Using three-dimensional motion analysis, mean first ray dorsiflexion/eversion and mid-/hindfoot eversion peak motion, time-to-peak, and eversion excursion were evaluated. Subjects with greater static dorsal mobility of the first ray demonstrated significantly greater time-topeak hindfoot eversion and …

Objectives: This study was undertaken to evaluate changes in fibroid specific symptom severity and health-related quality of life (HRQOL) after uterine artery embolization (UAE) and to consider the impact of these changes on satisfaction with the procedure.
Study design: A validated, fibroid specific, symptom, and HRQOL questionnaire was mailed to 80 women who had undergone UAE from 1998 through 2002. Pre- and postprocedure symptom severity and HRQOL scores were obtained. The primary outcome measure was change in fibroid symptoms and HRQOL after UAE. Secondary outcomes included objective measures of patient satisfaction, and the decrease in uterine volume after UAE.
