Reducing Mortality Among African American Mothers Related To Postpartum Hemorrhage By Implementing Early Education And Risk Assessments, Don'ya Truesdale
Reducing Mortality Among African American Mothers Related To Postpartum Hemorrhage By Implementing Early Education And Risk Assessments, Don'ya Truesdale
Theses and Dissertations
African American women are at the highest risk for hemorrhaging during childbirth (Okunlola, 2022). A hemorrhage can occur among postpartum mothers for many reasons, with the main causes being uterine atony, tissue trauma, and clotting issues. However, risks for Black mothers differ. The comorbid and social factors within the Black community greatly influence the likelihood of Black mothers experiencing postpartum hemorrhage. Additionally, the lack of assessment and attention catered towards those risk factors lead to an increased mortality among African American (AA) mothers compared to Caucasian mothers and all other ethnicities. Nonetheless, as maternal risk assessments and education increase, mortality …
Understanding The Importance Of Psychological Screenings For Patients Undergoing Elective, Invasive Cosmetic Surgery: A Literature Review, Jazmin N. Rush
Understanding The Importance Of Psychological Screenings For Patients Undergoing Elective, Invasive Cosmetic Surgery: A Literature Review, Jazmin N. Rush
Theses and Dissertations
All over the United States (U.S.), men and women alike are undergoing elective, invasive cosmetic surgery. Research has found there is an increasing number of patients choosing cosmetic surgery in hopes of alleviating psychological disorders such as body dysmorphic disorder and low self-esteem. The objective of this review is to analyze the literature available regarding cosmetic surgery and the psychological issues leading to the decision to undergo elective, invasive cosmetic surgery in order to understand and identify the possible benefits of psychological screenings. Information for this study was obtained from three electronic databases - Galileo, PubMed, and CINAHL. U.S. based …
Availability Of & Access To Prenatal Care & The Effects On Maternal & Infant Mortality Rates: A Comparison Of Central American Countries, Costa Rica & Guatemala, Joanne Danae Youngblood
Availability Of & Access To Prenatal Care & The Effects On Maternal & Infant Mortality Rates: A Comparison Of Central American Countries, Costa Rica & Guatemala, Joanne Danae Youngblood
Theses and Dissertations
Costa Rica and Guatemala share similarities in history, culture, and a relatively congruous geopolitical philosophy. Yet despite these superficial parallels, access to prenatal care between the two countries is shockingly disparate. Costa Rican women have better access to prenatal care and both the maternal and infant mortality rates are comparable to more developed countries with significantly higher rates of economic development and higher spending on healthcare per capita. In juxtaposition, the lack of prenatal care within Guatemala’s health care system is a prime example of a country’s failure to implement protections and policies that promote and elevate the level of …
Effects Of Blood Flow Restriction Training On Healthy Individuals Using The (B)Strong Training System: A Randomized Controlled Trial, Mallory Rockhill
Effects Of Blood Flow Restriction Training On Healthy Individuals Using The (B)Strong Training System: A Randomized Controlled Trial, Mallory Rockhill
Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of the study was to examine and compare muscular fitness and subjective muscle pain between blood flow restriction (BFR) training using the (B)Strong Training System and traditional resistance training program after a 7-week intervention. Thirty-one healthy male and female young adults volunteered to participate. Participants were randomly selected into three groups: HIRES (high intensity resistance training), LIBFR (low intensity blood flow restriction training) or CON (control). All participants refrained from structured activity outside of this study for the duration of the entire study. Anthropometrics, body composition, muscular strength and endurance were measured prior to and post training. Delayed …
The Cardiovascular Demands Of Division I Sideline Cheerleaders During Training And Football Games, Mckenna Cornett
The Cardiovascular Demands Of Division I Sideline Cheerleaders During Training And Football Games, Mckenna Cornett
Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the autonomic balance and cardiovascular demands of collegiate sideline cheerleaders between practice and game settings, and throughout four quarters of a football game; and to evaluate the physical fitness of collegiate Division I cheerleaders. Eleven cheerleaders volunteered to participate (age; 18.9+0.8y, height; 163.2+4.3cm, and body mass; 64.9+8.7kg). Basic physical fitness was assessed by evaluating blood pressure, resting heart rate, grip strength, and body composition. Physiological data (maximal heart rate [HR], average HR, physiological intensity, physiological load, maximal activity, and average activity) were collected at four practices and four games using a Zephyr …
The Impact Of Non-Mandated Physical Training On Physiological Measures And Performance In Army Officers, Emily Garrett
The Impact Of Non-Mandated Physical Training On Physiological Measures And Performance In Army Officers, Emily Garrett
Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to observe the physiological changes in body composition and fitness assessments in US Army Officers after 5 months of non-mandated exercise. Twenty two captains stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia volunteered to participate (age; 26.9£1.2 years, height; 1.76+0.6m, and weight; 83.1+11.1kg). Eleven participants remained in active units with mandated training (MT) while 11 participants were in positions where training was not mandated (NMT). Anthropometrics, body composition, cardiorespiratory fitness, anaerobic power, and muscular strength were measured in both groups before and after the intervention period (1812 weeks). At pre-intervention, MT and NMT were not different in …
Exploration Of The Impact Of Childhood Obesity And The Correlation With Parents, Emilee L. Leslie
Exploration Of The Impact Of Childhood Obesity And The Correlation With Parents, Emilee L. Leslie
Theses and Dissertations
This review and analysis explored the prevalence of childhood obesity within the United States and other countries around the world, as well as the correlation between childhood obesity and parents. Method: I originally planned to conduct a survey study within the Muscogee-Columbus County School District (MCSD); however, I was unable to get the correct signatures in order to proceed with the Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval process. At that time I got approval from the Honors Dean and my Thesis Director to conduct an in-depth literature review and analysis on the impact of childhood obesity and the correlation with parents. …
