Khan MI, Khan JI, Ahmed SI, Ali S. The epidemiology of stroke in a developing country (Pakistan).

Pak J Neurol Sci. 2018;13(3):30-44.

A reader brought to our attention that the article titled “The epidemiology of stroke in a developing country (Pakistan)”, published in Volume 13, Issue 3, of Pakistan Journal of Neurological Sciences (PJNS) was a redundant (duplicate) publication. We investigated this complaint and found out that prior to its submission to PJNS on February 11 2018, this article had already been published almost verbatim in Journal of Neurology & Stroke on January 23, 2018.

Cerebral Venous Thrombosis At High Altitude, Maryam J Syed, Wasim Alamgir, Mohammad Wasay

Pakistan Journal of Neurological Sciences (PJNS)

Cerebral Venous Thrombosis (CVT) is one of the rarest causes of stroke. It is described as complete or partial occlusion of the sinuses or cortical veins of the brain. A relationship between high altitude (HA) and cerebral venous thrombosis has been long suspected due to various case reports and studies, however, the exact underlying mechanisms and etiologies are highly complex and debatable. In this article review we discuss the incidence etiologies, risk factors, clinical presentations and management of CVT at high altitude. CVT majorly affects young people [2]. It presents with a wide variety of clinical presentations due to the …

Stroke As A First Presentation Of Malignancy, Farheen Niazi, Puneet Kakar, Ratneshwari Jha, Reena Dhami, Farook Edoo

Pakistan Journal of Neurological Sciences (PJNS)

Stroke is a frequent complication in patients with cancer occurring in nearly 15% of the cases. However cerebrovascular disease as the first presentation of malignancy has rarely been reported. We report two such cases who were admitted with acute stroke but were later on found to be having malignancy. Routine workup was unrewarding in both patients. Both patients developed pulmonary embolism as well during hospital stay suggesting hypercoagulable state as likely etiology. Reaching to the final diagnosis was an arduous journey but can help guide other clinicians facing similar cases. Non Hodgkins B cell lymphoma and Carcinoma Gall bladder were …

Pakistan Journal of Neurological Sciences (PJNS)

The aim of this survey was to determine the levels of awareness regarding symptoms, warning signs and risk factors of stroke in patients with stroke. For the latter purpose, a total of 500 participants who had stroke were recruited from four different hospitals of Rawalpindi and Islamabad. Patients who were already diagnosed by physicians with either type of stroke (haemorrhagic and ischemic) were included in this trial. Data was collected through a questionnaire and was analysed in SPSS version 20. Both male and female population were included in this study. The minimum age for the patients to be included was …

Post Stroke Dementia And Its Putative Risk Factors: A Hospital - Based Study, Iranmanesh F, Sheykholeslami Nz, Rahimdel A, Gadari F, Vazirinajad R, Syedyazdi F

Pakistan Journal of Neurological Sciences (PJNS)

Introduction:
Dementia is common after stroke and has a considerable impact on mortality, rehabilitation and quality of life. There are some published articles regarding post stroke dementia but there are many controversies surrounding this topic. Our aim was to identify the prevalence of post stroke dementia 3 months after stroke and evaluation of some its putative risk factors in Iranian population.

Method:
In this cross-sectional study, 151 patients with acute stroke were evaluated. The diagnosis was confirmed by physical examination and neuroimaging. Three months after the stroke, all patients were visited again. The diagnosis of post stroke dementia was made …
