Clinical Utility Of Anti-Mullerian Hormone In Pediatrics, Roopa Kanakatti Shankar, Tazim Dowlut-Mcelroy, Andrew Dauber, Veronica Gomez-Lobo

Pediatrics Faculty Publications

CONTEXT: Anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH) was originally described in the context of sexual differentiation in the male fetus but has gained prominence now as a marker of ovarian reserve and fertility in females. In this mini-review, we offer an updated synopsis on AMH and its clinical utility in pediatric patients.

DESIGN AND RESULTS: A systematic search was undertaken for studies related to the physiology of AMH, normative data, and clinical role in pediatrics. In males, AMH, secreted by Sertoli cells, is found at high levels prenatally and throughout childhood and declines with progression through puberty to overlap with levels in females. …

A naturally occurring bovine model with excess follicular fluid androstenedione (High A4), reduced fertility, and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)-like characteristics has been identified. We hypothesized High A4 granulosa cells (GCs) would exhibit altered cell proliferation and/or steroidogenesis. Microarrays of Control and High A4 GCs combined with Ingenuity Pathway Analysis indicated that High A4 GCs had cell cycle inhibition and increased expression of microRNAs that inhibit cell cycle genes. Granulosa cell culture confirmed that A4 treatment decreased GC proliferation, increased anti-Müllerian hormone, and increased mRNA for CTNNBIP1. Increased CTNNBIP1 prevents CTNNB1 from interacting with members of the WNT signaling pathway thereby …

Efficacy Of Anti-Mullerian Hormone In The Diagnosis Of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, Cassidy Prewitt Jan 2021

Efficacy Of Anti-Mullerian Hormone In The Diagnosis Of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, Cassidy Prewitt

Capstone Showcase

Introduction: Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a complex condition that presents with a wide variety of symptoms. The PCOS diagnosis standard is the Rotterdam criteria, which includes hyperandrogenism, oligo-anovulation, and polycystic ovarian morphology (PCOM). Transvaginal ultrasounds have traditionally been used to evaluate PCOM, however, they are highly dependent on technician skill. This paper will evaluate research regarding the use of anti-Mullerian (AMH) in PCOS diagnosis as an alternative to transvaginal ultrasound.

Methods: A literature search was conducted using PubMed and Academic Search Ultimate in January 2020. A total of eight articles were selected based on relevance to the research topic …

The Serum Concentrations Of Anti-Mullerian Hormone (Amh), Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone (Tsh), Free Triiodothyronine (Ft3) And Free Thyroxine (Ft4) During Early Pregnancy, Kristina Hamilton

Theses: Doctorates and Masters

The first trimester of pregnancy is a dynamic time of change involving the implantation and development of the fetus, together with a wide range of related endocrine changes arising from the ovary and feto-placental unit, as well as other changes in maternal and fetal physiology. The present longitudinal study has investigated two main areas of endocrinology in circulating maternal serum from positive pregnancy test to the detection of a fetal heartbeat, namely (i) AMH and (ii) thyroid function. Women attending Fertility North and conceiving during fertility investigation or treatment underwent phlebotomy twice weekly and AMH, TSH, fT3 and fT4 levels …
