Survey Of The Student Load At The Paradise Valley School Of Nursing, Dorothy M. James
Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects
This study was conducted to find out to what extent the student load at the Paradise Valley School of Nursing was conductive to a well balance life and to make recommendations which might guide the faculty in curriculum planning.
The normative-survey was the method used to gather data from the faculty and students of the Paradise Valley School of Nursing. Interviews and two guide sheets were used to gather information from fourteen instructors regarding their course requirements and their estimates of balanced living for students. One activity record was used on which students recorded their activities for two weeks. Forty-six …
Factors In Clinical Instruction Which Influence Effective Student Performance, Lynette Kapualani Hong
Factors In Clinical Instruction Which Influence Effective Student Performance, Lynette Kapualani Hong
Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects
Teaching and maintenance of standards of nursing care are indeed a responsibility of the clinical instructor. If she is to do effective instruction of the student's clinical experience, she needs to know what factors are influencing the student's performance as a result of her presence.
The significance of the student's reactions to various educational experiences has been receiving increasing recognition during the last several years. This study was conducted to identify factors from nursing students' opinions concerning what clinical instructors do that influence effective student performance. These factors have been outlined for use in planning more effective clinical instructions.

Some negative feelings were also experienced by the students during the initial contact. In most of these instances the …
A Survey Of Hospital Facilities Potentially Available For Nursing Education In Orange County, California, Mabel M. Sanders
A Survey Of Hospital Facilities Potentially Available For Nursing Education In Orange County, California, Mabel M. Sanders
Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects
In the past decade the nurse/population ratio in the West had been declining. The region was not educating enough nurses to replace normal labor market turnover. The migration of nurses into the area was not in proportion to the explosive growth. In view of the deficit it became imperative for California communities to plan for expansion of existing nursing education facilities and to consider the development of new programs where educational and clinical facilities were available.
This study was concerned with hospital facilities available for nursing education in Orange County, California. Its purpose was to investigate hospital resources that might …

An Investigation Of Factors Relating To Turnover Among Nursing Personnel Of A Selected Hospital, Thelma I. Ogren
An Investigation Of Factors Relating To Turnover Among Nursing Personnel Of A Selected Hospital, Thelma I. Ogren
Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects
The purpose of this study was to identify factors that contributed to the turnover among nursing personnel of a selected hospital in a large metropolitan city. It was felt that such a study would assist in the reduction of turnover among the nursing personnel.
Other similar studies revealed that reasons for turnover among hospital nursing personnel were due to low salaries, hours of work, work loads, communications, improper placement, poor supervision, and a lack of promotional opportunities. It was also found that the younger age group had a larger turnover rate than the older age group, that hospitals with schools …
A Study Of The Home-Care Instruction Needs Of Colostomy Patients, Nadine C. Lewis
A Study Of The Home-Care Instruction Needs Of Colostomy Patients, Nadine C. Lewis
Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects
It was the purpose of this study to determine how well colostomy patients were prepared to undertake self-care at home. Related to this goal was the secondary purpose of preparation of a basic list of instructional needs of colostomy patients. Such a list should be useful in determination of content for colostomy self-care teaching programs in hospitals.
The interview method was used in this study in order to ensure more complete returns. Twelve colostomy patients were interviewed using an interview schedule. These patients had had colostomy surgery within the last year in one of two hospitals used in the study. …

Change In Selected Sensitive Psychological Areas Of The Only Child When A Sibling Is Born, Eveline H. Loewe
Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects
A study was undertaken to see if, through the use of story projective fables, data could be obtained about the change in selected sensitive psychological areas of an only child when a sibling is born.
Projective stories from the Fine Revision of the Despert Fables were used to form brief tests of the sensitive psychological areas of parental rejection/sibling rivalry, dependency and aggression/hostility. These tests were given, both before and six weeks after the birth of a sibling, to fifty children from families in the Santa Clara Valley. Criteria used in selecting the children limited the subjects to those who …

Application Of Knowledge Of Medications By Senior Students In A Selected School Of Nursing, Patricia H. Okimi
Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects
The problem arose from the need to study the present method of pharmacology instruction in a selected school of nursing. "How much knowledge of medications do selected senior students have, and how do they apply their knowledge in the administration of medications?"
For this study, the normative survey approach was used as the method of research. Eleven senior students of nursing engaged in the administration of medications, as team leaders, were observed and questioned on two different occasions during one quarter of their school year. The tool of research used to collect data was an observation code sheet developed for …

Effect Of Between-Meal Eating On Stomach Emptying Time, Bernice Peterson
Effect Of Between-Meal Eating On Stomach Emptying Time, Bernice Peterson
Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects
As yet there is little agreement among health workers as to whether the practice of between-meal eating is harmful, beneficial, or indifferent in its influence on health. Studies which have been done heretofore on between-meal eating have been concerned with the effects on growth, appetite, daily nutrient intake, regularity, body metabolism, overweight, work efficiency, and dental caries. It appears that the possible physiological effects of between-meal eating have been only partially explored. The problem of this study was the effect of eating between meals on stomach emptying time.
