Genomic DNA (gDNA) is a prerequisite for genomic research. However, the collection of blood samples from young animals for gDNA extraction is not practical. Since piglet tail docking is routinely performed in pig farms to prevent injury from tail biting, docking tails served as a practical source for gDNA in piglets. However, extraction of gDNA from piglet tails is difficult because of inelasticity and cartilage. This cross-sectional study aimed to determine the prevalence of Trypanosoma evansi infection and its associated risk factors in camels in the Jazan region, southwestern Saudi Arabia. A total of 679 blood samples were collected from three local breeds of camel – Awadia, Awarkia and Sawahelle – in 11 randomly selected governorates of Jazan region. Blood samples were screened by Giemsa-stained blood film (GSBF) and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) techniques. The overall prevalence of T. evansi was 30.9% (210/679, CI: 27.6–34.5%) by PCR, whereas a prevalence of 22.2% (151/679, CI: 19.3–25.5%) was revealed by GSBF. Bovine mastitis has had a great impact on the economic losses of the dairy industry. Nowadays, environmental pathogens cause the main types of bovine mastitis, especially the streptococci. The aim of the study was to identify the major Streptococcus species causing bovine mastitis in Taiwan as well as to reveal their antimicrobial susceptibility profiles. By colony morphology identifying, Gram staining, and subculturing on Edwards agar, the preliminary identified streptococci were subjected to biochemical identification, latex agglutination tests and dick diffusion tests for susceptibility tests of 16 antimicrobial agents. Arginine metabolism plays a pivotal role in the mammalian reproductive system by controlling various physiological processes of the reproductive organs including follicular development, ovulatory mechanisms and egg production. However little is known about the molecular mechanisms regulating arginine metabolism at early stages of folliculogenesis. The objective of the current study was to determine the arginine metabolic pathways in prehierarchical follicles of Zi geese through the Illumina Hiseq 2500 platform and their transcripts through the de novo assembly. Surgical Removal And Recurrence Of Leiomyosarcoma In A King Cobra, Ophiophagus Hannah, Taksa Vasaruchapong, Panithi Laoungbua, Lawan Chanhome, Wijit Banlunara

An adult male wild-caught king cobra, Ophiophagus hannah, of unknown age was raised in captivity for seven years. The snake showed swelling at the caudal third of the body. Physical examination revealed an approximately 15x10 cm firm mass in coelomic cavity. Radiography showed soft tissue density causing complete obstruction of intestinal tract. The mass was surgically removed and diagnosed as leiomyosarcoma. The snake was monitored and the mass recurred two months post-surgery. A second surgical exploration showed severe adhesion of the mass to dorsal aorta, intercostal muscle, ribs and stomach. The snake was euthanized and the recurrent masses were diagnosed …

The objective of this study was to determine the efficacy of the recombinant herpes virus of turkey-Newcastle disease virus (rHVT-NDV) vaccine against Newcastle disease virus (NDV) challenged in 14 days old broiler chickens. One hundred chickens were divided into 5 groups of 20 chickens each. Group 1 chickens received live NDV vaccine via the intra-nasal route. Group 2 chickens received rHVT-NDV vaccine by subcutaneous injection. Group 3 chickens, received both live NDV and rHVT-NDV vaccine. The effect of dexmedetomidine alone and when combined with pethidine on a minimum alveolar concentration (MAC) of isoflurane was determined in 24 client-owned adult male dogs before castration. Dogs were assigned to Group 1 (n = 12; dexmedetomidine, 5 µg/kg IM) or Group 2 (n = 12; dexmedetomidine, 5 µg/kgand pethidine, 5 mg/kg IM) . This cross-sectional study describes the epidemiological data of feline urolithiasis in Thailand. Information on 923 feline uroliths submitted from Thailand to the Minnesota Urolith Center between January 2010 and December 2017 was evaluated. The frequency of urolith types, the relationships between urolith type and breeds and sex, were analyzed. Calcium oxalate was the most common urolith (49.5%) and was commonly found in male cats (OR = 1.81; 95%CI: 1.39, 2.36) with a mean age of 6.3±3.2 years. The aim of this study was to analyze the effects of nicotine exposure during in vitro maturation (IVM) on the outcomes of in vitro fertilization (IVF) and the expression of gene related development of oocytes and embryos. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of a rapid heat-treatment method on Thai QX-like infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) and the efficacy on protection from the virus after heat treatment. QX-like IBV isolate THA46 was incubated at 56 oC. The incubated virus was collected every 5 min for up to 1 h and then they were inoculated into embryonated chicken eggs. The study was performed to investigate the antimicrobial susceptibility of L. intracellularis field isolates from Korean pig farms. The novel four field isolates successfully obtained from clinical cases were prepared in IEC-18 cells to conduct the in vitro antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) by determining minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC)s; either intracellular (InMIC) or extracellular MICs (ExMIC). The final MICs were assessed by counting the number of heavily infected cells (HICs;> 30 bacteria per cell) using an immunoperoxidase monolayer assay.
