Effects Of Three Different Loading Models On Strength And Body Composition In Resistance Trained Persons, Orlando Rivera Apr 2024

Effects Of Three Different Loading Models On Strength And Body Composition In Resistance Trained Persons, Orlando Rivera

Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)

Background: Periodization of the annual training plan is a commonly utilized tool within the strength and conditioning community. Within the periodized plan, load is a key variable that is often manipulated to optimize strength development. At the present moment, a common model for load prescription involves the use of a percentage-based training (PBT) plan. However, inherent problems within a PBT loading model may reduce the accuracy of the training stimulus due to various reasons including atypical one repetition maximum (1RM) performance, strength improvements, or an acute decrease in an individual’s ability to perform. Thus, autoregulatory loading models may be a …

Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)

BACKGROUND: Patellofemoral pain is a commonly diagnosed health condition that can negatively impact short- and long-term health and wellness. Prevention strategies to screen for and mitigate the risk of developing patellofemoral pain are needed. Current screening tools evaluating lower extremity movement quality lack the specificity to identify at risk individuals.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to explore the inter-rater reliability and concurrent validity of the real-time visual observation of the single-leg squat, single-leg step down, and single-leg drop landing by athletic trainers to evaluate lower extremity movement quality related to functional activities that may predispose to knee dysfunction. …

A National Study On The Relationship Between Programmatic Factors And Athletic Training Education Board Of Certification Pass Rates, Leslie Rippon May 2021

A National Study On The Relationship Between Programmatic Factors And Athletic Training Education Board Of Certification Pass Rates, Leslie Rippon

Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)

In athletic training (AT) education, the first-time BOC pass rate is a significant marker of a program’s success, and the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) requires programs to maintain a first-time 3-year aggregate BOC examination pass rate over 70%. There is limited published research on BOC pass rates on Professional Masters’ (PM) programs. Therefore, it is essential to identify modifiable factors that have a relationship with first-time pass rates. This study's aim was to investigate the relationships between programmatic factors and the first-time BOC pass rate for PM AT students while controlling for student and institutional factors. …

Understanding And Identifying The Knowledge And Attitudes Of High School Coaches On Sport-Related Concussions, Marc A. Mortellaro Mar 2020

Understanding And Identifying The Knowledge And Attitudes Of High School Coaches On Sport-Related Concussions, Marc A. Mortellaro

Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)

Background and Purpose of the Study: Sport-related concussions are a major public health issue, particularly so in the setting of sports. Sports dominate American culture and with millions of athletes of all ages participating in these sports these athletes predispose themselves to the risks of sport-related concussions. High-school athletes are of particular interest because of the heightened risks of long-term consequences and of particular note second impact syndrome, which is a catastrophic injury primarily reported in the adolescent aged athlete. Appropriate concussion assessment and management is necessary for reducing the possibility of these long- term effects of concussions. Properly trained …

Exploring The Decisions Involved In Evidence-Based Practice Adoption By Athletic Trainers, Brittany Vorndran Allard May 2019

Exploring The Decisions Involved In Evidence-Based Practice Adoption By Athletic Trainers, Brittany Vorndran Allard

Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)

Background: The governing bodies of athletic training have been putting an emphasis on evidence-based practice (EBP) through college curriculum changes and continuing education requirements. Research has shown these interventions are increasing knowledge, but there is still a knowledge to practice gap.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the decisions involved in EBP adoption by practicing athletic trainers (ATs).

Methods: This study utilized a general qualitative approach that was exploratory in nature. Fifteen participants participated in the study, and all were practicing certified athletic trainers who stated they were using EBP when making treatment decisions.

Data Collection …

The Relationship Of Anthropometric Ratios And Kinematic & Kinetic Measures Of The Hip In Recreational Male Athletes Performing The Back Squat, Jay C. Garrels May 2017

The Relationship Of Anthropometric Ratios And Kinematic & Kinetic Measures Of The Hip In Recreational Male Athletes Performing The Back Squat, Jay C. Garrels

Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)

The back squat exercise is a popular resistance exercise that involves synchronous movement of the entire body to perform the movement properly . The two main focuses when considering engaging in the back squat exercise are the risks of injury and the enhancement of performance. There is little information and scant understanding on the way body proportionality impacts the risk of injury and performance. The present study investigated this issue by investigating if there was a relationship between anthropometric ratios and kinematic & kinetic outcomes from the left and right hip when experienced, male back squatters performed a single repetition …

Effects Of Isolated Core Stability Training On Standing Static Postural Control, Recovery Of Standing Postural Control And Kicking Velocity In Soccer Athletes, Ali El-Kerdi Mar 2016

Effects Of Isolated Core Stability Training On Standing Static Postural Control, Recovery Of Standing Postural Control And Kicking Velocity In Soccer Athletes, Ali El-Kerdi

Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)

BACKGROUND: About 1/3 of injuries are non-contact in nature and half of these involve the LE’s. There are numerous anatomical and physiological mechanisms and systems involved in stabilizing the trunk for movement of the lower extremities. The ability of the trunk to maintain the position and motion of the trunk over the pelvis and LE’s is predominantly accomplished via quick postural responses to internal and external forces. These pre-programed postural responses are integrated within the neuromuscular system. It is theorized that poor core stability is a result of a failure in the neuromuscular system to support the trunk and pelvis …
