Psychosocial Predictors Of Cosmetic Surgery Acceptance Among Young Adult Women In The Uae. The Role Of Selfie Behavior, Narcissism And Religiosity: A Cross-Sectional Study, Amna Ahmad Alsadani

Theses

Cosmetic surgery is prevalent in the UAE and has been linked to negative psychological and physical consequences. The present study investigates psychosocial factors expected to predict an acceptance of cosmetic surgery among young adult women in the UAE. It was hypothesized that high selfie behavior, high narcissism, and low levels of religiosity would have a positive association with an interest in cosmetic surgery. The factors that motivate people to undergo cosmetic surgery were assessed using the 15-item Acceptance of Cosmetic Surgery Scale. Selfie behavior was examined using two questions derived from previous research. Narcissism was assessed using the 16-item Narcissistic …

Examining P3 And N2 Amplitudes Following Social Exclusion And Provocation In College Students With High And Low Narcissistic Traits, Kathleen Ramsey

Dissertations

Adults with narcissistic traits are prone to reacting aggressively following provocation due to elevations in emotional reactivity and perceived threat to their grandiose self-views. Prior studies have examined event-related potentials (ERPs) measures in college students with narcissistic traits in the context of risky decision making and facial emotion processing; however, no known studies have examined how those with narcissistic traits react to rejection and provocation at the neurophysiological level during an externally valid social rejection task (i.e., Cyberball). For the purposes of this study, it was predicted that participants with higher levels of narcissistic traits (both total narcissism and grandiose …

Causes And Consequences Of Bullying, Molly Maloney

Honors Theses

What causes people to bully others? Some evidence suggests that being the victim of bullying can cause a person to become aggressive, but research on the topic is flawed. The current research attempts to improve on prior research to examine (1) whether being bullied causes individuals to become bullies, themselves, and (2) whether there are personality traits or situational variables that predispose individuals to respond to bullying by becoming aggressive. Participants were either included in all three rounds of an online game (Cyberball; Williams et al., 2012), or ostracized to varying degrees. I hypothesized that participants who were ostracized would, …

The Relationship Between Narcissism Attachment Styles And The Response To Social Media, Caitlyn Collins

Honors Theses

Previous research suggests that narcissism is correlated with higher social media use and that self-esteem motivates this use. Additionally, research suggests that individuals with anxious or avoidant attachment styles have “self object” needs that are fulfilled through interactions with others. In the current research, we examined the correlation between narcissism and social media use, as well as the correlation between attachment style and social media use. Participants were given questionnaires to measure narcissism, attachment style, social media use, and self-esteem. Participants were also assigned to one of three feedback conditions, positive, neutral, or negative, on a social media site. Results …
