This thesis examines the effectiveness of an active learning approach in improving oral health literacy and attitude about science among at-risk students in the age range of third to sixth grades. This is done by designing and implementing a novel Oral Health Outreach module and video. Clinically, the affected tooth is unsuccessful to erupt, exhibits an infraocclusal position within the dentoalveolar arch, elicits a metallic sound on percussion, and has reduced or absent mobility. Objective: This single case report illustrates the management of idiopathically ankylosed maxillary deciduous first molars. Case report: The patient was a 6-year-old female with maxillary deciduous first molars in infraocclusal position due to idiopathic ankylosis. The ankylosed deciduous teeth were monitored regularly. จุดประสงค์: เพื่อทดสอบประสิทธิภาพของการใช้แอซิดูเลทเทตฟอสเฟตฟลูออไรด์เจลโดยการทาด้วยพู่กันต่อรอยผุจำลองบนชิ้นฟันน้ำนมเมื่อเปรียบเทียบการใช้ฟลูออไรด์วาร์นิช วิธีการวิจัย: การศึกษานี้เป็นการทดลองแบบไขว้ โดยใช้ฟันน้ำนม 50 ชิ้นมาสร้างรอยผุจำลอง และแบ่งเป็น 3 กลุ่มเพื่อทาสาร ได้แก่ (1) เจล หลอกที่ไม่มีฟลูออไรด์ ปริมาณ 0.4 มิลลิลิตร เป็นกลุ่มควบคุม (2) แอซิดูเลทเทตฟอสเฟตฟลูออไรด์เจล ความเข้มข้นร้อยละ 1.23 ปริมาณ 0.4 มิลลิลิตร ทาด้วยพู่กัน (3) ฟลูออไรด์วาร์นิช ความเข้มข้นร้อยละ 5 ปริมาณ 0.4 มิลลิลิตร ชิ้นฟันตัวอย่างจะถูกติดกับเครื่องมือถอดได้ในขากรรไกรล่างสำหรับอาสาสมัครทั้งหมด 25 คน เพื่อรับสารทั้ง 3 ชนิดตามลำดับการสุ่ม หลังจากใส่เครื่องมือเป็นเวลา 1 ชั่วโมงจึงทำการถอดเครื่องมือและนำชิ้นฟันไปผ่านกระบวนการจำลองการเปลี่ยนแปลงสภาวะความเป็นกรดด่างในช่องปากเป็นเวลา 14 วัน นำค่าเฉลี่ยร้อยละการสูญเสียฟลูออเรสเซนต์เริ่มต้น (△F0) และหลังการทดลอง (△F1) ที่วัดผลโดยใช้เครื่องคิวแอลเอฟ-ดี มาวิเคราะห์ผลทางสถิติ ผลการศึกษา: กลุ่มชิ้นฟันที่ได้รับเจลหลอกมีค่า △F1 ลดลง แสดงให้เห็นว่ามีการสูญเสียแร่ธาตุเกิดขึ้น กลุ่มที่ได้รับแอซิดูเลทเลตฟอสเฟตฟลูอไรด์เจลและฟลูออไรด์วาร์นิชมีค่า △F1 เพิ่มขึ้น แสดงให้เห็นว่ามีการคืนกลับแร่ธาตุเกิดขึ้น เมื่อเปรียบเทียบค่าความแตกต่างระหว่าง △F0 และ △F1 พบว่า ฟลูออไรด์วาร์นิชสามารถคืนกลับแร่ธาตุในรอยผุจำลองได้มากกว่ากลุ่มที่ใช้แอซิดูเลทเทตฟอสเฟตฟลูออไรด์เจลและกลุ่มควบคุมอย่างมีนัยสำคัญ (p<0.0001) สรุป: การใช้ฟลูออไรด์วาร์นิช ความเข้มข้นร้อยละ 5 สามารถคืนกลับแร่ธาตุในรอยผุจำลองได้อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพมากกว่าการใช้แอซิดูเลทเทตฟอสเฟตฟลูออไรด์เจล ความเข้มข้นร้อยละ 1.23 โดยการทาด้วยพู่กัน

แปรงสีฟันสำหรับเด็กที่มีจำหน่ายในท้องตลาดในปัจจุบันมีหลายยี่ห้อซึ่งมีคุณสมบัติและลักษณะที่แตกต่างกันออกไป การศึกษานี้ต้องการทดสอบคุณสมบัติทางกายภาพของแปรงสีฟันสำหรับเด็กที่มีจำหน่ายในท้องตลาดโดยเปรียบเทียบการสึกของขนแปรงและปลายขนแปรงสีฟัน และการสึกของผิวเคลือบฟันน้ำนม เมื่อถูกแปรงโดยเครื่องแปรงฟันในห้องปฏิบัติการ นำชิ้นฟันที่ตัดจากด้านแก้มของฟันกรามน้ำนมขนาด 2 x 2 ตารางมิลลิเมตร จำนวน 42 ชิ้นมาฝังในอะคริลิกแล้วนำมาแบ่งเป็น 6 กลุ่ม ตามยี่ห้อของแปรงสีฟัน 1) CUdent (7mm), 2) CUdent (8mm), 3) Berman®, 4) Colgate®, 5) Fluocaril® และ 6) Kodomo® ทดสอบโดยการแปรงฟันร่วมกับสารละลายยาสีฟันด้วยเครื่อง V8 cross – brushing machine ทั้งหมด 100,000 รอบ จากนั้นนำหัวแปรงสีฟันมาหาค่าดัชนีการสึกของแปรงสีฟัน ตัดขนแปรงมาเพื่อพิจารณาลักษณะปลายขนแปรงสีฟันตามมาตรฐาน มอก. และนำผิวเคลือบฟันน้ำนมมาหาค่าเฉลี่ยความขรุขระและค่าเฉลี่ยความลึกการสึกของผิวเคลือบฟันน้ำนม ผลการศึกษาพบว่าค่าเฉลี่ยดัชนีการสึกของขนแปรงสีฟันทุกยี่ห้อก่อนการทดสอบอยู่ในช่วง 0.035±0.003 ถึง 0.038±0.004 โดยไม่พบความแตกต่างอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ และมีค่าเฉลี่ยดัชนีการสึกของขนแปรงสีฟันหลังการทดสอบอยู่ในช่วง 0.088±0.014 ถึง 0.245±0.028 โดยพบว่าแปรงสีฟันยี่ห้อ Fluocaril® และ CUdent (8mm) มีค่าเฉลี่ยดัชนีการสึกของขนแปรงสีฟันสูงกว่ายี่ห้ออื่นอย่างมีนัยสำคัญ (p < 0.001) ร้อยละของลักษณะปลายขนแปรงสีฟันที่ยอมรับได้ก่อนการทดสอบอยู่ในช่วงร้อยละ 90.67 ถึง 94.67 หลังการทดสอบอยู่ในช่วงร้อยละ 78.29 ถึง 96.00 และค่าเฉลี่ยความขรุขระและค่าเฉลี่ยความลึกการสึกของผิวเคลือบฟันน้ำนมก่อนการทดสอบใกล้เคียงกันอยู่ในช่วง 9.054±2.006 ถึง 10.563±3.342 และ 0.021±0.008 ถึง 0.028±0.010 ตามลำดับ และหลังการทดสอบยังคงมีค่าใกล้เคียงกันอยู่ในช่วง 9.638±1.694 ถึง 10.792±0.889 และ 0.032±0.012 ถึง 0.058±0.042 ตามลำดับ โดยไม่พบความแตกต่างอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติทั้งก่อนและหลังทดสอบ จากการศึกษานี้สรุปว่าแปรงสีฟันที่มีจำหน่ายในท้องตลาดมีคุณสมบัติทางกายภาพใกล้เคียงกัน โดยแปรงสีฟันยี่ห้อ Fluocaril® และ CUdent (8mm) มีการสึกของขนแปรงสีฟันหลังการทดสอบมากกว่ายี่ห้ออื่น ร้อยละของลักษณะของปลายขนแปรงที่ยอมรับได้ก่อนและหลังการทดสอบผ่านเกณฑ์มาตรฐานทุกยี่ห้อที่นำมาทดสอบ และแปรงสีฟันทั้งหมดที่ทดสอบทำให้ผิวเคลือบฟันน้ำนมสึกได้ไม่แตกต่างกัน

These restorations may need to be removed or replaced with permanent crowns. Early childhood caries (ECC) is the most common chronic disease affecting children, despite being almost 100% preventable. ECC has become associated with a multi-factorial etiology including poor feeding practices, enamel hypoplasia, oral colonization by cariogenic bacteria, and demineralized tooth structure due to metabolism of sugars by tooth-adherent bacteria. ECC can lead to school absences, poor school performance, difficulty sleeping, attention problems, slower social development, and poor overall health. การศึกษานี้เป็นการศึกษาทางคลินิกแบบแบ่งส่วนช่องปากซึ่งมีการจัดกลุ่มด้วยวิธีสุ่มและมีกลุ่มควบคุม มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อเปรียบเทียบการลุกลามของรอยผุด้านประชิดระยะแรกเริ่มในฟันหลังแท้ที่ระยะเวลา 6 เดือนภายหลังการทาฟลูออไรด์วาร์นิชและคาวิตี้วาร์นิช ในอาสาสมัครจำนวน 30 คนที่มีรอยผุด้านประชิดระยะแรกเริ่มที่ระดับความลึกไม่เกินรอยต่อเนื้อฟัน-เคลือบฟันอย่างน้อย 1 คู่ที่อยู่คนละจตุภาค ซึ่งไม่เป็นรูทางคลินิกและมีการดำเนินโรค อาสาสมัครได้รับการถ่ายภาพรังสีดิจิทัลชนิดกัดปีกที่ระยะเริ่มต้น รอยผุดังกล่าวได้รับการจัดกลุ่มโดยการสุ่มเพื่อทาฟลูออไรด์วาร์นิช หรือคาวิตี้วาร์นิช (กลุ่มควบคุม) อาสาสมัครได้รับการถ่ายภาพรังสีดิจิทัลชนิดกัดปีกอีกครั้งที่ระยะ 6 เดือน เพื่อติดตามการลุกลามของรอยผุ โดยใช้วิธีการวัดผล 2 วิธี ได้แก่ การวัดความหนาแน่นแร่ธาตุของรอยผุจากภาพรังสีซ้อนทับชนิดดิจิทัลระหว่างภาพรังสีที่ระยะเริ่มต้นกับที่ระยะ 6 เดือน และการวัดความลึกรอยผุโดยตรงจากภาพรังสีดิจิทัลชนิดกัดปีกที่ระยะเริ่มต้นและที่ระยะ 6 เดือนด้วยโปรแกรม Image-Pro Plus พบว่าค่าเฉลี่ยความหนาแน่นแร่ธาตุระหว่างรอยผุด้านประชิดระยะแรกเริ่มกลุ่มที่ได้รับการทาฟลูออไรด์วาร์นิช (125.38 ± 6.9) และคาวิตี้วาร์นิช (132.63 ± 8.59) มีความแตกต่างกันอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ (p=0.001) เมื่อใช้สถิติ paired-T test ตรงข้ามกับค่าเฉลี่ยผลต่างความลึกรอยผุกลุ่มที่ได้รับการทาฟลูออไรด์วาร์นิช (-0.0078 ± 0.13) และคาวิตี้วาร์นิช (-0.0227 ± 0.11) ที่ไม่พบว่ามีความแตกต่างกันอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ (p=0.525) เมื่อใช้สถิติ paired-T test ดังนั้นจึงยังไม่สามารถสรุปผลของฟลูออไรด์วาร์นิชต่อการลุกลามของรอยผุด้านประชิดระยะแรกเริ่มในฟันหลังแท้ได้ และควรมีการศึกษาเพิ่มเติมในระยะยาวต่อไป

Purpose: To evaluate the treatment of healthy children who are high caries risk and of low socioeconomic status and who require repeat full mouth dental rehabilitation (FMDR) under general anesthesia (GA).

Methods: A retrospective chart review was performed on healthy Medicaid eligible patients who were initially between 18 months - 6 years of age who underwent FMDR under GA in the OR more than once at the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Dentistry, Department of Pediatric Dentistry from January 2008 to December 2018.
