Persons with dementia (PWDs) rely on caregivers, primarily family caregivers (FCGs), for basic and instrumental activities of daily living as the disease progresses. In 2020, the World Health Organization called for the expansion and greater recognition of all nursing roles, including advanced practice nurses (APNs), to better meet patient care needs. Remote area nurses provide primary health care services to isolated communities across Australia. They manage acute health issues, chronic illness, health promotion and emergency responses. Problem: Nurse practitioners lack knowledge and skills to effectively communicate with D/deaf individuals which potentiates risk for health disparities and gaps in care. Graduate nursing programs rarely incorporate D/deaf-focused education in their curriculums.

Methods: This descriptive quality improvement project implemented the first D/deaf-focused educational online module at a Midwestern university’s College of Nursing. A purposive sample of 38 BSN-DNP students enrolled in the Spring Intensive completed a pre- and post-education survey. AIM: To achieve profession-wide consensus on clinical practice standards for six broad Australian nurse practitioner specialty areas (termed metaspecialties). DESIGN: Sequential mixed methods with initial interpretive study (Interpretive Phase) followed by modified three-round Delphi study (Survey Phase). METHODS: Participants from all Australian jurisdictions were recruited. Main eligibility criterion was current endorsement as a nurse practitioner for 12 or more months. Problem: Training family nurse practitioners (FNPs) was identified as a concern within a university MSN FNP program. A major gap identified was that student practicum evaluation tools needed to be competency-based.

Context: The paradigm shift from content-focused curriculum to competency-based curriculum has led to a refinement in program accreditation and increased national certification requirements.

The best mechanism to achieve successful advance care planning has yet to be identified. A randomized, controlled, experimental study was performed with a sample of 54 men and women who met inclusion criteria and were randomized into the intervention versus the control group in an outpatient clinical setting in rural West Virginia (WV) from December 2018 to March 2019. In July 2018, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) updated its Medicaid Managed Care (MMC) regulations that govern network and access standards for enrollees. There have been few published studies of whether there is accurate geographic information on primary care providers to monitor network adequacy.

The project identified factors affecting implementation of evidence-based non-invasive screening tests to identify early stage cardiovascular disease (CVD). The use of coronary artery calcium scores and carotid intima media thickness testing improves accuracy of risk stratification over risk factor scoring systems alone. The purpose of this project was to identify NP’s perceived barriers to and facilitators of utilization of evidence-based non-invasive CVD screening tests and to make recommendations for improvements in implementation. This project explored the impact of the change to centralized leadership for APPs working in an academic healthcare system in which employee turnover was high and satisfaction was low. Information from anecdotal interviews at a practicum site indicated a lack of training for advanced practice providers (APPs) in core competencies critical for effective practice in a heart failure (HF) unit. The goal of this project was to assess the APPs' verbal reports and develop HF unit-specific training for APPs. Some classes of drugs have been shown to be metabolized differently in people of specific genetic profiles, with gene markers correlating to the differences in metabolism.
