Objectives: To support hospital-based nursing education programs, teaching information literacy to enhance evidence-based practice and promote nursing research.

Methods: Health sciences librarians are increasingly involved in educational programs designed to introduce evidence-based practice concepts to nurses. When a pilot Evidence-Based Boot Camp was proposed at Providence St. Vincent, a 4-time Magnet-designated hospital, the librarian was asked to join the instructor and mentor panel. The librarian’s contribution consisted of co-presenting the introduction to EBP, searching literature and appraising the evidence; providing tailored hands-on small-group search training; and helping nurse teams apply the evidence to EBP projects. Background

An expectation of baccalaureate nursing education is to prepare nurses to implement evidenced-based practice (EBP). This expectation extends far beyond a basic understanding of the research process. BSN prepared nurses must be able to effectively and efficiently identify, analyze, and synthesize evidence (AACN, 2008). The acquisition of information literacy skills is foundational to the development of EBP.

The study took place at a College of Nursing within a mid-sized, faith-based university located in the Midwest. Objective: To develop a librarian liaison role for the Inova Health System’s Nursing Research Councils. In addition, the project aims to establish and improve connections with all nurses conducting research at Inova facilities.

Methods: Through a process of needs assessment, collaboration on research activities, outreach, teaching activities, and promotion this project promoted awareness and usage of library services by members of the nursing research councils. The librarian liaison works directly with each of the six nursing research councils to inform them of the library’s services and resources specific to their needs and goals. To identify the incidence and correlates of physical and sexual violence among HIV-infected women at risk for pregnancy, a cross-sectional examination was conducted within a longitudinal study of reproductive decision making. Participants consisted of 275 HIVinfected women 17 to 49 years of age (mean = 30.1 years).Women were predominantly African American (87%) and single (82%), with annual incomes of $10,000 or less (66%). Overall, 68% of the women reported experiencing lifetime physical and/or sexual violence. Before becoming HIV infected, 65% of the women reported having been physically or sexually abused. BACKGROUND: Although research consistently indicates harmful effects of mismanaged anger, little attention has been given to age differences in the experience and expression of this emotion. It is plausible that, with age and experience, people have less intense anger or learn to manage it more constructively.

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this project was to examine age differences in anger frequency, intensity, and expression in a nonclinical sample of students, faculty, and staff who participated in a health fair at a large southeastern university.

This study examined family composition and functioning in a cohort of HIVinfected women of reproductive age living in the southern United States. Participants were predominantly single (82.2%), African American women (86.7%) with annual incomes of less than $10,000 (65.5%), with a mean age of 31.2 years. Using the Family Apgar Scale as a measure of perceived family functioning, women reported that their families functioned moderately well. Multiple regression analysis showed that level of education, life satisfaction, and coping through avoidance and coping by seeking social support were positively associated with family functioning. Anxiety is a universal problem for individuals with AIDS because the disease creates uncertainty and disruptions in every aspect of their lives. Nurses have a wide variety of holistic interventions to help persons living with AIDS (PLWAs) manage anxiety. Orem’s self-care theory of nursing provides a framework for assessing, diagnosing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care for an HIV-infected person experiencing anxiety. This article presents an overview of anxiety, the nature of anxiety in HIV-infected individuals, and psychological, pharmacological, and holistic interventions to assist the client in self-care of anxiety.
