A Scoping Review Of Nurse-Led Randomised Controlled Trials, Marion Eckert, Kate Kennedy, Kim Neylon, Claire M. Rickard, Samantha Keogh, Richard Gray, Sandy Middleton, Caroline Homer, Lisa Whitehead, Greg Sharplin

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Background: Nurses comprise the largest portion of the healthcare workforce worldwide. However, nurse representation in the leadership of clinical research and research funding is largely unknown. The Australasian Nursing and Midwifery Clinical Trials Network was established to provide a coordinated network, focussed on building research capacity in nursing and midwifery. To support this work, this scoping review of nurse-led randomised controlled trials was conducted to summarise research activity, as well as highlight future research directions, gaps and resources. Midwife-led trials will be reported elsewhere. Aim: To quantify number, type and quality of nurse-led randomised controlled trials registered between 2000–2021. Design: …

Aim: To explore the International Network for Child and Family Centred Care (INCFCC) members' experiences and views on the long-term impact of COVID-19 on the nursing workforce. Background: On the 11 March 2020, the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a global pandemic. While some countries adopted a herd immunity approach, others imposed stricter measures to reduce the transmission of the virus. Hospitals in some countries faced an avalanche of extremely sick admissions, whereas others experienced an early surge in cases or were able to control the spread. Design: Discursive paper. Methods: A web-based survey was e-mailed to 63 INCFCC members …

A Translational Research Framework For Nurse Practitioners, Mary Ryder, Elisabeth Jacob Jan 2022

A Translational Research Framework For Nurse Practitioners, Mary Ryder, Elisabeth Jacob

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Aims This study aims to explore a proposed translational research continuum for nurse practitioners. Background Nurse practitioners are acknowledged as clinical leaders responsible for transforming health care delivery. It is important that nurse practitioners contribute to health care knowledge using scientific processes for the implementation of evidence-based practice and evaluation of outcomes of interventions for their patient groups. Evaluation This paper provides a review of translational research literature including implementation science to align nurse practitioner activities to a modified translational research framework. Key Issues A translational research framework has the potential to strengthen nursing research in the nurse practitioner role. …

The Power Of Story: Narrative Inquiry As A Methodology In Nursing Research, Carol C. Wang, Sara K. Geale Jan 2015

The Power Of Story: Narrative Inquiry As A Methodology In Nursing Research, Carol C. Wang, Sara K. Geale

Research outputs 2014 to 2021

The aim of this paper is to explore the essential elements and value of narrative inquiry in nursing research. We propose that understanding a previous experience allows the nurse researcher an "insider view" and hence a deeper understanding of the issues that arise in the relationship between participant and researcher. We suggest that narrative inquiry in nursing research offers a particular way of caring about how knowledge is produced. Nursing science would benefit from the understanding that health and nursing practices are dynamic processes characterized by the continuous interaction of human thought and behaviour that continuously 'pumps' into personal, social …
