Novel Heat Index Models For Subtropical Region Based On Daily Milk Production Incrossbred Holstein Cows, Neeraj Kashyap, Atish Kumar Chakravarty, Bharti Deshmukh

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The quantification of the effect of heat stress imposed due to higher rate of heat gain on animal production is a prerequisite while estimating effects of heat stress. Temperature humidity index (THI) models developed empirically using meteorological parameters have been utilized as an indicator of heat stress. This study attempted to develop a heat index model with respect to productivity of the crossbred Holstein cows. More than 1.23 million daily milk yield records of 1860 crossbred cattle spread over a duration of 30 years were utilized. Statistically significant (p < 0.0001) partial regression coefficients were estimated as 0.0748 ± 0.0009 for dry bulb temperature (T$_{db}$) and -0.2228 ± 0.0011 for wet bulb temperature in model 1, -0.0182 ± 0.0005 T$_{db}$ and -0.1205 ± 0.0006 for vapour pressure in model 2, -0.0150 ± 0.0006 for Tdb and -0.1151 ± 0.0006 for dew point temperature in model 3 while as -0.1283 ± 0.0004 for T$_{db}$ and -0.0394 ± 0.0002 for relative humidity in model 4. The ratio of the partial regression coefficients of meteorological parameters (ß2/ß1) was -2.9791 in model 1, 6.8739 in model 2, 7.6731 in model 3 and 0.3073 in model 4. The developed THI models are based on the effect of meteorological parameters on daily productivity of the dairy animals, so the weightages to meteorological parameters were contrastingly different than the reported THI models. These models may successfully be used to evaluate the impact of heat stress on crossbred Holstein cows with respect to milk productivity and many other traits.

Var-Gor is a hive entrance attachable device box consist of bee passage tunnels (width: 25 mm, height: 15 mm, and depth: 50 mm), autofocus detection camera combined with interface (process sensor: IV-HG10) and …

Power Of Body Live Weights In Differentiation Physiological Growth Of Goat Breeds, Raed Alatiyat, Amani Al-Dawood Jan 2021

Power Of Body Live Weights In Differentiation Physiological Growth Of Goat Breeds, Raed Alatiyat, Amani Al-Dawood

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

We assumed that live body weight (LBW) would be useful to be utilized as informative categorical variable in differentiation goat performance towards better assignment into breeds. One-day old goat kids of both sexes were separately allocated as 3 breeds: Baladi, crossbreds and Shami. The kid LBW was recorded weekly until the 12th week of age. Weekly LBW showed a significant increase (p < 0.05) for both males and females of the 3 breeds and highly significant (p < 0.0001) between breeds. The high phenotypic correlation between most of the studied measurements encouraged us to investigate their efficiency in breed differentiation at early life age. Results showed that only LBW of the week 1, 2, 5, 9, and 11, and week 1, 2, 3, 11, and 12 were efficient in discriminating male and female kids, respectively. These results were better presented by showing significant genetic distances (p < 0.0001) between the breeds using the Unweighted Pair Group Method with Arithmetic mean (UPGMA) dendrogram. It is inferred that the phylogenetic tree lengths of the three breeds were 29.02 and 222.13 for male and female kids, respectively. Baladi and crossbred kids of both sexes grouped into one cluster closer than Shami kids. The canonical discriminant analysis was proved its successfulness for identifying breed based on LBW measurement.

Effect Of Vanadium (Iv) Chloride Supplementation On Appetite-Related Hormone Levels Inrats With Experimentally Induced Diabetes, Tünay Kontaş Aşkar, Adnan Adi̇l Hi̇şmi̇oğullari, Olga Büyükleblebi̇ci̇, Hati̇ce Nur Er Sarikaya

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Vanadium is one of the essential trace elements for mammals, which has important functions in the metabolism of carbohydrates. There is limited data about the effects of vanadium (IV) chloride supplementation on appetite-related hormones in literature. Our target was to analyse the impacts of vanadium supplementation on appetite-related hormone (leptin, nesfatin-1 and apelin) levels in rats with experimentally induced diabetes. Twenty eight male Sprague-Dawley albino rats were used in this study. After formation of diabetes, 0.3 mg/mL of vanadium was added to drinking water of rats for four weeks. A substantial increment was found in serum glucose (p < 0.001), HbA1c (p < 0.001), HOMA-IR (p < 0.01), and leptin (p < 0.001) levels and a significant decrease in insulin, apelin and nesfatin-1 concentrations in diabetic rats. Moreover, blood glucose, HbA1c, HOMA-IR, and leptin levels decreased in diabetic + vanadium group, but nesfatin-1 (1.74 ± 0.94 ng/mL), apelin (1.74 ± 0.94 ng/mL), and insulin concentrations were found higher compared with the diabetic group. As a result of this study, vanadium has increased the levels of circulating nesfatin-1 and apelin levels in diabetic rats while decreasing blood glucose and leptin concentrations. But further studies are required to determine the blood glucose lowering effects of vanadium and its relationship with appetite related hormones in diabet.

The aim of this study is to determine the effect of the rangeland quality of Ankara goats fed on some natural rangeland in Ankara on the mohair quality. The research was carried out in 3 different quality natural rangelands in Ankara province. Crude protein, ether extract, Ca, Fe, N, energy contents and digestibility, in vitro gas production, and relative feed values of good quality rangeland plants were the highest compared to other rangelands, but the crude fiber, acid detergent fiber, and neutral detergent fiber were the lowest (p < 0.05). In the study were used a total of 120 animals (20 males, 20 females in each farm) from 3 farms where Angora goats are raised in the region of rangelands. The mohair quality was determined in mohair samples taken from 6 month old, 1.5, and 2.5-yearold animals. Rangeland quality significantly affected mohair lengths, fineness, elasticity, tenacity, and clean mohair yield, in males and females (p < 0.05). The highest values were obtained from goats fed good quality rangeland (p < 0.05). The effect of age on these features was also important. The mohair quality (length, elasticity, tenacity) increased with increasing age (p < 0.05). The effect of the rangeland quality on the nozzle number was not significant, but the effect of age was significant. and, the nozzles number increased with increasing age. The nozzle depth was affected by the rangeland quality and age. The nozzle depth has increased due to the increase in rangeland quality and age. While the mohair Ca, Mg, S, Fe, and N content of male and female goats were higher in goats fed on good quality rangeland, these were lower in goats fed low-quality rangeland (p < 0.05). While mohair Na content positively affected rangeland quality in females (p < 0.01), was insignificant in males.

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The present study evaluated the carcass and meat quality traits of three groups of Japanese quails. These groups {i.e. selected for 4-week body-weight group (WBS), selected for egg number (EBS), and random-bred control (RBC)}, were selected for three consecutive generations from a base population of 1125 quails. In total, 2700 four-week-old quails from three selected lines (225 birds per group per generation) were slaughtered in a total of four generations (G0 to G3). The effects of selection were evaluated on the carcass and meat quality traits in four generations. WBS in G3 presented significantly highest dressing yield, breast yield, thigh …

An Application Of Least Square Support Vector Machine Model With Parameters Optimization For Predicting Body Weight Of Harnai Sheep Breed, Farhat Iqbal, Abdul Raziq, Zil E. Huma, Muhammad Ali Khan

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

This study utilized a model based on the least square support vector machine (LSSVM) for the prediction of body weight (BW) of sheep. Two heuristic algorithms, namely, coupled simulated annealing (CSA) and simplex method (S) were applied to tune the hyperparameters of the LSSVM model. The hybrid CSA-S-LSSVM method is then applied to the male, female and total data of the Harnai sheep breed of Pakistan. Various biometric traits such as withers height, body length, chest girth, face length, paunch circumference, ear length, the length between ears, fat tail width and fat tail length were used as predictors. Goodness of …
