Strongyloidiasis commonly causes gastrointestinal problems. We present the case of a male, a 30-year-old cadet in the Peruvian Navy from Lima, who developed a hyperinfection syndrome due to Strongyloides stercoralis, having a presumptive diagnosis of polymyositis for which he received a short cycle of corticosteroids. He was not a carrier of the HTLV 1/2 virus. Upon admission, he presented with hyporexia, generalized weakness, cachexia, intermittent self-limited diarrhea, oral intolerance, and mild abdominal distension. The patient reached the dissemination stage, resulting in severe intestinal damage. The low excretion of larvae in the feces made the diagnosis difficult. Treatment was provided with …

Introduction: Solitary fibrous tumors (SFTs) are rare mesenchymal neoplasms that, although typically develop in the visceral pleura, occasionally occur in the intracranial cavity. Furthermore, they are characterized by high rates of metastasis and recurrence. Case Report: We present the case of a 59-year-old male patient with a 3-month history of headache and bradyphrenia. Computed tomography revealed a neoformative tumor infiltrating the nasal cavity, ethmoid sinuses, and anterior cranial fossa, involving the left frontal lobe. Introduction: Sarcina ventriculi is a Gram (+), anaerobic, non-motile cocci, with a fermentative carbohydrate metabolism, that survives and grows without problems in environments with acidic pH. It is a known etiological agent in veterinary pathology, however its pathogenic role in humans is controversial. Thanatophoric dysplasia type 1 is a form of lethal skeletal dysplasia, characterized by axial-appendicular skeletal disproportions as well as short stature, frontal bossing, cloverleaf skull, narrow chest, femoral bowing, and micromelia. These phenotypic characteristics are the result of pathogenic variants in the fibroblast growth factor receptor 3 (FGFR-3) gene, located on chromosome 4p16.3 For its study, obstetric ultrasound, physical examination and radiographic findings are important. However, the diagnosis must be confirmed by genetic study in order to discover new variants or associations, as well as to reveal its actual casuistry in a certain region.

Infectious sacroiliitis is a rare condition that is sometimes diagnosed late due to the poor specificity of the symptoms. In addition, imaging techniques such as scintigraphy, tomography, and nuclear magnetic resonance are required to assess the extent and severity of the lesions. Introduction: Since the start of the pandemic, Mexico was one of the countries with the highest mortality rates from COVID 19. Objective: To determine if type 2 diabetes mellitus, arterial hypertension, and obesity increase mortality in patients diagnosed with COVID-19 who required hospitalization in Mexico. Introduction: Whipple procedure, also known as pancreatoduodenectomy (PD), is a widely used procedure for several types of peri-ampullary cancer. Objectives: To establish the factors associated with postoperative complications after PD in the Pancreas Surgery Service of the Edgardo Rebagliati Martins National Hospital in Lima, Peru. Methods: An observational, quantitative, analytical, cross-sectional, and retrospective study was carried out on 81 patients during the period from January 2017 to December 2019, who underwent PD. Objective: To create and validate a family resilience in caregivers relatives of people with disabilities (ERF-PD). Method: The research design is instrumental. The sampling was non probabilistic with a sample of 301 relatives of people with disabilities. Initially, 40 items were created but this number was reduced after the statistics analysis. Results: Aiken’s V values of 1.00 were obtained in all items. After the item analysis, nine items were removed. Objective: To describe the attitudes of doctors towards the approach to diabetic neuropathy. Methods: Descriptive, observational, cross-sectional and prospective study, sample of 143 doctors, non-probabilistic convenience sampling. The variables: years of professional practice, specialty, proportion of patients in the medical consultation with a diagnosis of diabetes mellitus (type 1 or 2), proportion of patients with diabetes mellitus with a diagnosis of diabetic neuropathy, attitudes towards the approach to diabetic neuropathy. Objective: Identify associated factors with emergence delirium in children in the Post-Anesthetic Recovery Unit of a Pediatric Health Specialized Institute in Peru. Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out in children from 2 to 6 years old, physical status classification I and II, in elective procedures under anesthesia. The main variable was the presence of emergence delirium evaluated with the Pediatric Anesthesia Emergence Delirium scale greater than or equal to 10 points. To identify the factors associated with delirium, the Poisson regression model was applied and a p value < 0.05 was considered significant. Results: Of the 150 children, it was found that the incidence of emergence delirium occurred in 10.6%. Of these, 81.4% were under 5 years of age, pain was significantly associated in 37.5% with PR = 3.63, 95%CI [1.20, 10.1] and it was observed that 68, 8% required palliative care. Conclusion: Pain was associated with delirium of postanesthetic emergence in children. Prevention and treatment of emergence delirium should focus on postoperative pain control and careful monitoring of patients after surgery.

Lipoproteins And Total Cholesterol In Adults With Normal And Elevated Cholesterolemia In A Polyclinic In Lima-Peru 2022: A Correlational Study, Alberto Guevara Tirado

Objective: To evaluate the degree of correlation between high-density, low-density, and very low-density lipoproteins and total cholesterol in patients with normal and high cholesterolemia. Methodology: Observational, analytical and cross-sectional study carried out from January to September 2022 with 207 patients over 18 years of age divided into a group with normal cholesterol and another with hypercholesterolemia. The Spearman correlation test was performed. Results: In normocholesterolemic subjects there was a low and negative correlation between high-density lipoproteins and low-density lipoproteins (-0.263) as well as between high-density lipoproteins and very low-density lipoproteins (-0.220). Mr. Editor: Gastric cancer, a malignant neoplasm that originates in the cells of the stomach lining, represents a significant burden in terms of mortality worldwide. According to data from the American Cancer Society, the estimated mortality rate is 4.9 per 100,000 people in 2021. In South America, mortality rates from gastric cancer continue to be of concern, with countries such as Chile and Peru reporting mortality rates of 18.7 and 13.6 per 100,000 persons respectively in 2021.

Introduction: Uveitis-glaucoma-hyphema syndrome (UGH) is a rare complication of cataract surgery, due to mechanical chafing exerted by an intraocular lens (IOL) on the iris. Clinical case: We present the case of a 64-year-old man with a history of cataract surgery, who presented decreased visual acuity and pain in the right eye. The ophthalmological examination revealed signs of anterior uveitis, elevated intraocular pressure (IOP), microhyphema, and a single-piece foldable IOL in the sulcus that caused a mechanical chafing with the posterior face of the iris. Introduction: Pneumothorax is a pathology prevalent in traumatic accidents in the thorax, but it can also be found spontaneously due to causes attributable to bullous disease, pneumonia, airway obstruction, malignancy, among others. Case report: Young male patient who debuted with spontaneous pneumothorax who required management in the intensive care unit with subsequent appearance of bullae in diagnostic images and pathology. Discussion: Primary spontaneous pneumothorax (PSP) in the young population is influenced by psychosocial factors such as age, gender, habits, environment, and genetic factors. Las entidades sinusoidales son raras en reumatología. En la esclerosis sistémica progresiva existe una variante de la forma cutánea limitada denominada esclerosis sistémica sine scleroderma, cuya característica central es la ausencia de afectación cutánea, pero sí afectación visceral. Los anticuerpos antitopoisomerasa o anticentrómero positivos confirman el diagnóstico. Presentamos el caso de una mujer de 63 años con enfermedad pulmonar intersticial, afectación del tránsito intestinal y fenómeno de Raynaud, con títulos elevados de ANA con patrón centromérico y positividad para anticuerpos anti-topoisomerasa.
