Back To Basics: Improving The Quality Of Blood Pressure Measurement, Heather Sailor Jul 2023

Back To Basics: Improving The Quality Of Blood Pressure Measurement, Heather Sailor

Student Scholarly Projects

Practice Problem: Hypertension is a leading cause of death and disability worldwide. Blood pressure measurement (BPM) is at the forefront of diagnosing and treating hypertension, however, it is often measured inaccurately.

PICOT: The PICOT question that guided this project was: In outpatient adult patients (P), what is the effect of implementing a standardized blood pressure measurement protocol (I) versus standard measurement (C), on the quality of blood pressure measurement (O) within 8 weeks (T)?

Evidence: Implementation of a blood pressure measurement protocol has been shown to improve the quality of blood pressure measurement.

Intervention: A blood pressure measurement protocol …

Improving Initial Lactic Acid Compliance Of Suspected Septic Adults In A Rural Emergency Department, Nataleigh Jones Jul 2023

Improving Initial Lactic Acid Compliance Of Suspected Septic Adults In A Rural Emergency Department, Nataleigh Jones

Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects

Background: Sepsis remains one of the leading causes of death in hospital settings. The doctor of nursing practice (DNP) project demonstrated areas that the hospital is doing satisfactorily with compliance and many areas for improvement within the organization regarding sepsis compliance. The DNP project demonstrated the effectiveness of the sepsis best practice advisory (BPA) tool in increasing sepsis bundle compliance in the emergency department (ED).

Purpose: The purpose of this DNP project is to help aid in the early recognition of sepsis and improve initial lactic acid compliance in a local emergency department. Many tools help with the early recognition …

A Multimodal Approach To Decreasing Hesitancy And Increasing Uptake Of The Covid-19 Vaccine In The Family Care Setting, Meghan Zwierzynski May 2022

A Multimodal Approach To Decreasing Hesitancy And Increasing Uptake Of The Covid-19 Vaccine In The Family Care Setting, Meghan Zwierzynski

Evidence-Based Practice Project Reports

Since December 2019, the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has swept across the world, infecting and killing millions of people, making it one of the worst pandemics in history (WHO, 2021). However, the rates of confirmed cases and deaths have slowed since the discovery of the COVID-19 vaccine. The purpose of this evidence-based practice (EBP) project was to decrease vaccine hesitancy and increase uptake of the COVID-19 vaccine in the family care setting. The Iowa Model-Revised (Iowa Model Collaborative, 2017) is a practical, effective multi-step change process that acted as a guide for the EBP project. A review of literature showed …

Osteoporosis Implications For The Aging Adult, Grace Alford Aug 2021

Osteoporosis Implications For The Aging Adult, Grace Alford

Nursing Student Class Projects (Formerly MSN)

This poster describes the pathophysiology, symptoms, implications for care, and treatment of osteoporosis for advanced practice RNs. The research was conducted within health-related databases. The literature review narrowed the search to only include the pathophysiology, interventions, and care for osteoporosis. Literature was restricted to within the past five years. The research showed that osteoporosis reduces mineral density in bones and can be adequately treated within a short amount of time. It is important for nurses and advanced practice providers to be aware of current guidelines, screenings, and treatments for osteoporosis.

Health Concerns Of Adolescents And Adults With Spina Bifida, Jessica A. Starowicz Aug 2021

Health Concerns Of Adolescents And Adults With Spina Bifida, Jessica A. Starowicz

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

The Transitional and Lifelong Care (TLC) program is a multidisciplinary clinical service providing comprehensive, coordinated care to adolescents and adults with spina bifida (SB). This study sought to identify the most common health concerns among this population at initial consultation and identify patient factors related to these concerns to ultimately improve health care delivery. A retrospective chart review was performed. Descriptive analyses were completed and associations between concerns and patient factors were determined using Spearman’s rho correlation coefficients. A multiple linear regression was performed to estimate the relationship between patient factors and total number of concerns reported. Ninety-four patient charts …
