A period known as post-traumatic amnesia (PTA) often follows a traumatic brain injury (TBI). PTA is characterized by anterograde and retrograde amnesia, confusion, disorientation, and agitation. The duration and severity of PTA is a key indicator of the long-term prognosis after a TBI, so proper assessment and nursing care of a PTA patient is crucial. Ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) is a hospital-acquired infection that affects intubated patients on a ventilator. The risk of acquiring the infection increases the longer a patient stays on the ventilator. Complications from ventilator-associated pneumonia can impact the patient physically, financially, or emotionally. Evidence-based recommendations collectively implemented to prevent VAP are referred to as a care bundle. Despite rising VAP cases in a local hospital, adherence to all elements of the VAP prevention bundle remained low. Problem: In the Department of Anesthesia at a large urban hospital, perioperative anesthesia NPs lack formal training in the subspecialty of anesthesia, which contributed to a lack of self-efficacy when responding to anesthesia emergencies.

Purpose/Background Central lines provide lifesaving uses, but they also place the patient at risk for central line associated blood stream infections (CLABSI). Catheter location, length of stay, handwashing, dressing changes, and disinfection of ports before use are all factors to prevent CLABSIs, yet sometimes these measures are not enough. Disinfecting caps are another way to decrease central line infection, however not all hospitals use this method. An average of 270,000 individuals die from sepsis each year, while a total of 1.7 million cases occur annually. Following two inpatient strokes, it was discovered that only 67 members of the 370-member inpatient nursing staff had been assigned the required online learning modules.
