Purpose. Although physical examination is a fundamental component of medical decision making, relatively few studies have evaluated how physicians quantify clinical signs and whether different methods of assessment have different effects on clinical practice. Objectives. To evaluate a possible impact of clinical experience when attending physicians, medical residents and medical students quantify qualitative signs of physical examination in a teaching hospital. Setting. Hospital das Clı´nicas, University of Sa˜o Paulo, Brazil. Subjects. A total of 244 randomly selected physicians and medical students completed a reliable and consistent eight-item questionnaire. Main outcome measures. Caregiving is accepted as a natural part of life and is recognized as an inherent responsibility within the American Indian/Alaskan Native Community. A qualitative analysis was conducted employing constant comparative method to explain the current status of the Native American Caregiver Support Program (NACSP) funded by Title VI-C grants. The NACSP (Title VI-C) of the Older Americans Act (OAA) is administered by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Administration on Aging (AoA). In this article Maine’s Bureau of Health Director, Dr. Dora Anne Mills, outlines the top 10 health issues facing Mainers today. As Mills points out, many chronic health issues would be greatly alleviated if people ate less and better, exercised more, and didn’t smoke. Participation in physical activity confers many health benefits by reducing the risk factor for a number of lifestyle related diseases such as diabetes, colon cancer, and heart disease. Other benefits include improved mental and physical well-being. For older people the benefits are even more important; engagement in physical activity extends to such health benefits as reduction in the risk of falls and related potential injuries. The Physiologic Health Care Needs Of Hiv-Infected Black Men On Admission To An Aids-Dedicated Nursing Home., Sheldon Fields

The purpose of this study is to describe the physiologic health care needs of HIV-infected Black men on admission to an AIDS-dedicated nursing home. Participants were 68 Black men aged 26 to 60 years who were admitted to an AIDS-dedicated nursing home in the southern New England area between 1995 and 1999. The participants were very ill and weak on their admission to the nursing home, with most having diagnoses of AIDS (n = 65), an average Karnofsky Performance Scale score of 44 (SD = 14.90), and some degree of mental impairment.
