Considerations Of Medicare Telehealth Services With Older Adults, Sonah Kho, Amanda Dediego
Adultspan Journal
The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic set in motion a rapid expansion of mental health services offered via telehealth. With this rapid expansion came the need to examine how policy and practice should be shaped in a future where telehealth is considered common in counseling practice. For counselors to understand how to support older adult clients in using telehealth services, they must understand telehealth policy. Following the eligibility of licensed counselors to participate in Medicare, counselors need to stay abreast of regulatory changes regarding restrictions and regulations on use of telehealth for mental and behavioral health services, including video and …

Effects Of Age On The Adult Peripheral Auditory System, Faraz Masheghati
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
Age-related changes in the auditory nerve and brainstem function were studied using electrocochleography (ECochG) and auditory brainstem responses (ABR) in young and old adult age groups. Isolating the effects of aging from lifetime ototoxic exposures such as noise is challenging. For this reason, only participants with normal audiograms were studied. Extended high frequency thresholds and distortion product otoacoustic emissions (DPOAEs) were also measured. Results reveal significant age-related differences. Older adults exhibit longer ECochG AP and ABR wave I and V latencies compared to younger adults, while the amplitude of these components, and the ECochG SP latency and amplitudes were unaffected …

How can hearing aids make group conversations easier in noisy public spaces?
Hearing aids often struggle to help users follow conversations in noisy, real-world environments like busy food courts. This study found that a new hearing aid technology using multiple adaptive beams to track different speakers improved users' ability to understand and focus on group conversations in a mall food court setting. These results suggest that advancements in hearing aid algorithms that account for the natural head movements and multiple conversation partners could significantly enhance the listening experience for people with hearing loss in challenging everyday situations.

Clinical Perspectives On Post-Operative Care For Tethered Oral Tissues (Tots), Robyn A. Merkel-Walsh, Lori L. Overland
International Journal of Orofacial Myology and Myofunctional Therapy
Introduction: Post-operative frenectomy care is often focused on active wound management (AWM) and followed by neuromuscular re-education (NMR). The standard practices of AWM are varied amongst providers. AWM is often expected to be performed by caregivers who have little to no experience with AWM. In contrast, NMR is individualized to patient needs and has been emerging in external evidence as a beneficial modality for the functional implications of tethered oral tissues (TOTs). It is guided by licensed professionals but is not often accessible or recommended.
New Perspective: AWM and NMR often are similar in execution but differ in goals. AWM …
