Evaluating The Dissemination Of The Icook 4-H Program Using Outcome, Process, And Fidelity Measures., Tara Gould

The iCook 4-H Dissemination Study, conducted in five states, was a control-treatment design to test whether a newly developed program for obesity prevention for youth could be successfully implemented by community leaders with minimal researcher involvement. Community leaders were primarily Cooperative Extension educators. A dyad model was used for youth (control=9.6±0.9 years of age; treatment=9.9±0.6 years of age) and their adult main food preparers (control=38.8±5.7 years of age; treatment=39.4±7.8 years of age). A three-pronged approach to evaluation developed previously for the program was used to measure outcomes, process, and fidelity of the program. The control group, youth (n=63) and adults …

The purpose of this paper was to systematically review the current literature and evaluate the overall efficacy of nitrate supplementation on exercise tolerance and performance by meta-analysis. Studies were eligible for inclusion if they met the following criteria: 1) were an experimental trial published in an English peer-reviewed journal; 2) compared the effects of inorganic nitrate consumption with a non-bioactive supplement control or placebo; 3) used a quantifiable measure of exercise performance; and 4) was carried out in apparently healthy participants without disease. Background: Childhood obesity is a complex issue common in the U.S. today as it not only is associated with health-threatening comorbidities, but also increases a child’s likelihood of becoming overweight or obese during adulthood. Background: High levels of obesity among children have become the nation’s most prevalent health condition. Individuals that live in low-income areas often face multiple risk factors that can lead to obesity. Background: Few studies have examined the relationship between cooking and wellness behaviors in college students.
Objective: Determine the association between cooking, wellness behaviors, fruit and vegetable (FV) intake and body mass index (BMI) in college students.
Design and Participants: A cross-sectional analysis was conducted using baseline data a multi-state, Community-Based Participatory Research project aimed at preventing weight gain in first-year college students. Objective: The goal of this study was to determine if there is an association between educational interventions by a RD and weight in the twelve months’ post-transplantation. A secondary aim is to study trends in blood lipid profiles in participants and the number of times visited with a RD.
Methods: A retrospective study of electronic medical records from consenting, de-identified RTR at a Midwest transplant center were collected. Specific biological and anthropometric measures were analyzed.

This quantitative research study explores the relationship between dietary patterns, hiker demographics, and total miles hiked during a backpacking trip on the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT). Long hiking distances, low rate of thru-hike completion, consumption of processed and ready to eat foods, weight loss, and large time and monetary strains are comthemes accepted anecdotally by the backpacking population11. However, these themes have yet to be adequately researched and validated for long distance backpackers and PCT backpackers specifically. PURPOSE: To assess the relationship of high school (HS) and collegiate (OM) household food security status (FSS) to current food consumption behaviors in a sample of NCAA Division 1 male, collegiate athletes ≥18 years of age (y). METHODS: A cross-sectional survey of NCAA athletes from a Southeastern Conference (SEC) university was approved by the Institutional Review Board and conducted during August-September, 2016. The questionnaire included the USDA food security survey module and questions related to disordered eating behaviors and food hoarding USDA methods were used to calculate FSS. Supplementation with beetroot juice (BR) has been shown to reduce blood pressure (BP) at rest and improve several performance parameters during submaximal and maximal exercise. BR effects on BP during submaximal exercise have not been investigated. Furthermore, the effects of BR on VO2max are inconclusive. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of BR on VO2max and BP during submaximal exercise. 20 healthy, recreationally trained volunteers (age 21.8±2.35 years, weight 75.10±10.62 kg, height 177.4±6.39 cm) participated in this study, which had a double-blind placebo controlled randomized crossover design. To determine the effects of a diet that provides 30% energy from protein with ½ as lean, red meat on risk factors of metabolic syndrome in humans. This pilot study was a 3- month, randomized, control, intervention trial with 33 participants (Beef-Intervention n=18; DASH-Control n=15) who displayed markers of metabolic syndrome. Registered Dietitians Nutritionists recruited and educated participants on Beef-Intervention Lean Beef Pattern, (30% of energy from protein with ½ as lean red meat, 40% carbohydrate, 30% fat) or DASH-Control dietary pattern, (15% of energy from protein, 55% carbohydrate and 30 % fat). Preschool-age children have the potential to be influenced by their physical home environment and their parents’ physical activity (PA) practices more than older children as preschool-age children are more reliant on parents for PA opportunities.
