The biota of Chesapeake Bay seems generally less known than that of New England and much of our West Coast. The present work attempts to mollify this discrepancy. The compilation has been revised and expanded to include plants and vertebrates. Inclusion of creatures not strictly aquatic but which may occasionally found their areas flooded by tidal waters has necessitated subjective declsions of limitation.

The Chesapeake Bay Bibliography was initiated by the Virginia Institute of Marine Science in response to growing resource management problems of the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries. With these problems carne the realization that planning and management of such a great natural resource is an overwhelming task requiring the best available information. This bibliography, therefore, was undertaken to document existing sources of information, to help identify research and data gathering needs, and to develop a comprehensive research and information services programs for individuals interested in research on, and management of the natural resources of the Chesapeake Bay region.

Feasibility Of Artificial Propagation And Introduction Of Hybrids Of The Morone Complex Into Estuarine Environments, With A Meristic And Morphometric Description Of The Hybrids, Jerome Howard Kerby

Laboratory and environmental studies of striped bass (Morone saxatilis) X white perch (M. americana) and striped bass X white bass (M. chrysops) were used to-determine the feasibility of introducing these hybrids into an estuary as a supplement to natural populations of the parental species. Growth patterns, survival, and general hardiness of the hybrids were used as criteria. Growth of striped bass X white perch hybrids in the laboratory was apparently somewhat less than growth of natural populations of striped bass, but was much greater than growth of natural populations of white perch.
