A habitat type classification is presented for the coniferous forests of northern utah and adjacent areas of idaho and wyoming. The classification and descriptions are based on data from about 1,100 sample stands covering 6 years of reconnaissance sampling.

The Farmington Creek watershed consists of 6,400 acres of forested and brush-covered lands on the west face of the Wasatch Mountains between Salt Lake City and Ogden. Streamflow data have been gathered from this stream as well as from most of its perennial tributaries for many years. Mean daily, monthly, and annual flows are tabulated for all years of record from the 12 gaged tributaries of farmington creek.

The objectives of this study were to investigate the impacts of internal nitrification on soil and soil solution acidity and on the rate of nutrient export through NO3– mediated leaching. This was achieved by comparing soil chemical properties and soil solution composition within a naturally N-rich red alder (Alnus rubra Bong.) ecosystem to those of an adjacent Douglas-fir [Pseudotsuga menziesil (Mirbel) Franco] forest where soil N levels were significantly lower and no measurable HNO3 production could be observed. ABSTRACT: Quaking aspen (Populus tremuloides Michx.)
regenerates almost exclusively by root suckers in the
western United States, even though female clones
produce abundant viable seed. During the past decade,
interest in propagating aspen for use as an
ornamental and for revegetation of forest land has
increased. To satisfy these diverse needs for aspen
planting stock, nurserymen have a choice between
sexual and asexual propagation. Criteria for clone
selection, suggestions for root and seed collection
and storage, propagation techniques, and the
advantages of both sexual and asexual propagation are
discussed.

Linear regression equations were developed to predict stand volumes for aspen given average stand basal area and average stand height. Tables constructed from these equations allow easy field estimation of gross merchantable cubic and board foot Scribner Rules per acre, and cubic meters per hectare using simple prism cruise data.

The isothermal adsorption and desorption of water vapor by forest fuels is represented with a two-parameter model based on an exponential relationship between Gibbs free energy change and equilibrium moisture content. The model is applied to five sets of sorption data in the literature to illustrate goodness of fit. Two of the data sets are well reproduced by the model; description of the remaining data is less satisfactory. Whether the deviations are due to experimental factors or a deficiency in the model is not determined. At constant temperature, hysteresis ratios tend to increase as percent relative humidity increases.
