Temperature is an important variable affecting the behavior and survival of aquatic organisms; however, little is known about the effects of size and corresponding developmental differences on aquatic insect temperature tolerance. We tested the critical thermal maximum (CTM) of large (head capsule width mean = 3.5 mm) and small (1.9 mm) specimens of Stenonema femoratum (Say) by raising the experimental temperature by 0.1, 0.3, and 0.5ºC per minute during laboratory CTM trials. The Caddisflies (Trichoptera) Of Drummond Island, Michigan, With An Assessment Of Lake Assemblage Biomass, David Houghton, Robert Haack

The adult caddisfly assemblages of Drummond Island, a Michigan island in Lake Huron near the Canadian border, were sampled in 2021–2022 from 3 sites on Lake Huron, 8 inland lakes, 2 vernal pools, and 1 stream. Adult caddisflies from each site were sampled in spring, summer, and autumn using ultraviolet blacklight traps. A total of 89 species representing 37 genera and 12 families was collected, including several not seen in Michigan for 50–70 years and the first confirmation of the rare species Beothukus complicatus (Banks) (Phryganeidae) from the state. Ten caddisfly species are reported from Michigan for the first time, including 5 in the family Limnephilidae (Limnephilus femoralis, L. thorus, Pycnopsyche aglona, P. circularis, and P. limbata), 2 in the Polycentropodidae (Cernotina pallida and Holocentropus glacialis), 1 in the Hydroptilidae (Hydroptila fiskei), 1 in the Leptoceridae (Triaenodes perna), and 1 in the Rhyacophilidae (Rhyacophila angelita). An additional 5 unique species, including several not seen in Michigan for over 70 years, are confirmed to be extant in the state, most notably Plectrocnemia sabulosa, Michigan’s only known …

Mycterus youngi was described from Wisconsin and “L.S” (presumed to indicate along Lake Superior). All but one of the specimens in the type series were collected between 1947 and 1949. Herein, three females of M. youngi are reported from Michigan, between 1910 and 1940. A discussion of possible implications of the few, and largely old collection dates is provided.

Along with colleagues and students I collected fleas from mammals during the period 1998-2007 in five Upper Peninsula counties, and three northern Lower Peninsula counties. Also included here are a few fleas from Grand Traverse County which were mistakenly omitted from earlier publications. Identified specimens were compared to existing distribution records for both parasite and host. Only new documented distributions for the county or the state of Michigan are listed. One parasite record is new for Michigan. Cordulegaster erronea Hagen in Selys (Tiger Spiketail) has been included on the list of Michigan Odonata based on one specimen collected in 1934. In 2016, the species was found in Kalamazoo County, Michigan. It is the least abundant Cordulegaster species in Michigan, and the habitat requirements in Michigan are compared with known C. erronea habitats in Ohio and New Jersey
