Application Of Girdling For Improved Fruit Retention, Yield And Fruit Quality In Syzygium Samarangense Under Field Conditions, Amru Bin Nasrulhaq Boyce

Amru Bin Nasrulhaq Boyce

The study was undertaken to investigate the effects of different girdling techniques on the yield and quality of wax jambu fruits (Syzygium samarangense). Physiological and biochemical parameters were monitored at one week intervals during the three successive growth period from January, 2009 to May, 2010, using I-25%, C, V shaped, I-50% and 100% girdling. Girdling was applied three weeks before flowering every season. It was observed that the C-shaped girdling technique significantly enhanced the inflorescence development and produced the best results with regard to the fruit retention, fruit size, leaf chlorophyll and drymatter in comparison to the control and the …

Postharvest Physico-Chemical And Mechanical Changes In Jambu Air (Syzygium Aqueum Alston) Fruits, Amru Bin Nasrulhaq Boyce Jan 2011

Postharvest Physico-Chemical And Mechanical Changes In Jambu Air (Syzygium Aqueum Alston) Fruits, Amru Bin Nasrulhaq Boyce

Amru Bin Nasrulhaq Boyce

Little data is available in the scientific literature on postharvest changes taking place in Syzygium aqueum fruits, an increasingly popular fruit in the Asian region. In this study the postharvest physico-chemical and mechanical properties, namely, fruit color, weight loss, pulp firmness, total soluble solids, pH and titratable acidity were determined during the postharvest storage period under ambient conditions of Syzygium aqueum fruits. It was observed that weight loss, total soluble solids (TSS) and pH of the jambu air fruits increased with time whilst pulp firmness and the color index of the fruits decreased. Analysis of the antioxidant activity, determined in …

Water Deficit-Induced Changes On Growth Parameters And Radiation Use Efficiency Of Promising Durum Wheat Genotypes, Amru Nasrulhaq Boyce Dec 2010

Water Deficit-Induced Changes On Growth Parameters And Radiation Use Efficiency Of Promising Durum Wheat Genotypes, Amru Nasrulhaq Boyce

Amru Bin Nasrulhaq Boyce

The present study was carried out to study the performance of durum and bread wheat genotypes in relation to accumulation of dry matter, growth parameters, photosynthetically active radiation interception and radiation use efficiency under different irrigation regimes. The experiment was laid out in a split plot based on a complete randomized block design. Irrigation regime was considered as the main plots and included four levels. Sub-plots were assigned to four durum-promising lines and a bread wheat cultivar. It was observed that water limitation significantly decreased the accumulation of dry matter, growth parameter values, photosynthetically active radiation interception and radiation use …

Application Of Physiological And Biochemical Indices For Screening And Assessment Of Drought Tolerance In Durum Wheat Genotypes, Amru Bin Nasrulhaq Boyce Dec 2010

Application Of Physiological And Biochemical Indices For Screening And Assessment Of Drought Tolerance In Durum Wheat Genotypes, Amru Bin Nasrulhaq Boyce

Amru Bin Nasrulhaq Boyce

Field experiments were conducted at the Khorasan-e- Razavi Agricultural and Natural Resource Research Center, in Mashhad during the 2007 and 2008 season, to determine drought tolerance in promising durum wheat genotypes. The experiments were laid out using a split plot arrangement, in randomized complete block design with three replications. Four irrigation regimes and five wheat genotypes were assigned to the main-plots and sub-plots respectively. Analysis of the data showed that with advancement of the growth and developmental stages from booting to anthesis and soft dough in the different wheat genotypes planted, the values of relative water content, canopy temperature depression …

An Evaluation Of The Nutritional Quality Evaluation Of Three Cultivars Of Syzygium Samarangense Under Malaysian Conditions, Amru Bin Nasrulhaq Boyce Dec 2010

An Evaluation Of The Nutritional Quality Evaluation Of Three Cultivars Of Syzygium Samarangense Under Malaysian Conditions, Amru Bin Nasrulhaq Boyce

Amru Bin Nasrulhaq Boyce

A study was carried out to selected physiological and biochemical characteristics of Syzygium samarangense for their physiological and biochemical characteristics at Functional Food Laboratory, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur. Various physiological and biochemical parameters were monitored during two seasons of fruit growth between October, 2009 to August, 2010 with the 'Giant green', 'Masam manis pink' and 'Jambu madu red' cultivars of S. samarangense. Ripened fruits of the different cultivars were collected from the experimental field of Banting, Selangor and analyzed for selected physiological parameters namely chlorophyll fluorescence, quantum yield, fruit weight, total yield, number of seed per fruit, seed weight …

Effect Of Sucrose And Kinetin On The Quality And Vase Life Of Bougainvillea Glabra Var. Elizabeth Angus Bracts At Different Temperature, Amru Bin Nasrulhaq Boyce Jan 2010

Effect Of Sucrose And Kinetin On The Quality And Vase Life Of Bougainvillea Glabra Var. Elizabeth Angus Bracts At Different Temperature, Amru Bin Nasrulhaq Boyce

Amru Bin Nasrulhaq Boyce

A study was conducted to investigate the effects of sucrose and kinetin on the post harvest quality and vase life of Bougainvillea bracts at different storage temperature. Bougainvillea bracts and flower (Bougainvillea glabra) of the same age and size were used in the experiments. Fresh bracts were continuously treated with 200 mg/l sucrose, 200mg/l kinetin and control (water) at 10 degrees C, 20 degrees C and 28 +/- 1 degrees C. It was observed that sucrose treated bracts exhibited the longest vase life compared to the control and kinetin treatments at different temperatures. The higher temperature has promoted water uptake, …

Impacts Of Alcohol Type, Ratio And Stirring Time On The Biodiesel Production From Waste Canola Oil, Amru Bin Nasrulhaq Boyce Jan 2010

Impacts Of Alcohol Type, Ratio And Stirring Time On The Biodiesel Production From Waste Canola Oil, Amru Bin Nasrulhaq Boyce

Amru Bin Nasrulhaq Boyce

The use of alternative fuels in order to reduce the environmental impacts of diesel emissions has been extensively investigated. Trends in the regional use of biomass-derived fuels, such as alcohols, biodiesel and agricultural residues as a proposed control initiative against elevated carbon monoxide levels in urban areas have expanded to a global scale. Waste cooking oil is considered as the most suitable material due to its readily-availability and cost-effectiveness. In this study, the transesterification of waste canola cooking oil was carried out using lower alcohol to oil molar ratios to study its feasibility. Some important variables such as volumetric ratio, …

Biodiesel Production From Waste Soybean Oil Biomass As Renewable Energy And Environmental Recycled Process, Amru Bin Nasrulhaq Boyce Jan 2010

Biodiesel Production From Waste Soybean Oil Biomass As Renewable Energy And Environmental Recycled Process, Amru Bin Nasrulhaq Boyce

Amru Bin Nasrulhaq Boyce

Alternative fuel is currently an important issue all over the world due to the efforts on reducing global warming which is contributed by the combustion of petroleum or petrol diesel. Biodiesel is non-toxic, biodegradable, produced from renewable sources and contributes a minimal amount of net green house gases, such as CO(2), SO(2) and NO emissions to the atmosphere. The study was carried out to produce biodiesel from waste/recycled oils to reduce the cost of biodiesel, waste and pollution. Some important variables such as volumetric ratio, types of reactants and catalytic activities were selected to obtain a high quality biodiesel fuel …
