Rna-Seq Analysis Reveals Distinct Splenic Response Of Two Chickens Lines To Newcastle Disease Virus, Jibin Zhang, Michael G. Kaiser, Melissa S. Herrmann, Rodrigo A. Gallardo, David A. Bunn, Huaijun Zhou, Susan J. Lamont May 2016

Rna-Seq Analysis Reveals Distinct Splenic Response Of Two Chickens Lines To Newcastle Disease Virus, Jibin Zhang, Michael G. Kaiser, Melissa S. Herrmann, Rodrigo A. Gallardo, David A. Bunn, Huaijun Zhou, Susan J. Lamont

Jibin Zhang

Newcastle disease virus (NDV) is an infectious virus in domestic chickens and is endemic in many countries. It has caused huge economic losses worldwide, especially in developing countries where the chickens and eggs are a primary source of economic income and family nutrition for the rural poor. Due to continuous evolution of NDV and unreliable vaccine production and distribution in developing countries, vaccine cannot prevent recurrent outbreaks of Newcastle disease. Therefore, breeding for NDV resistant chickens is a sustainable approach for alleviating rural poverty and food insecurity.
To identify critical genes regulating NDV resistance, an RNA-seq approach was undertaken with …

Mild Heat Stress Enhances Differentiation And Proliferation Of Japanese Quail Myoblasts And Enhances Slow Muscle Fiber Characteristics, Jibin Zhang, Paula Chen, Kichoon Lee, Seongsoo Hwang, Young Min Choi Apr 2016

Mild Heat Stress Enhances Differentiation And Proliferation Of Japanese Quail Myoblasts And Enhances Slow Muscle Fiber Characteristics, Jibin Zhang, Paula Chen, Kichoon Lee, Seongsoo Hwang, Young Min Choi

Jibin Zhang

The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of mild heat stress on muscle fiber hyperplastic and hypertrophic growth in quail primary myogenic cells to better understand the mechanisms leading to increased skeletal muscle development in avian embryos incubated at a higher temperature. Compared to control cultures maintained at 37°C, incubation at 39°C enhanced myotube length (P < 0.01) and diameter (P < 0.001) at 3 days after differentiation (D3). This enlargement of the myotubes incubated at 39°C can be explained by differences in the fusion index (56.7 vs. 46.2%, P < 0.05) and nuclei number …

Distinct Cardiac Responses To Heat Stress Between Two Broiler Lines Identified By Transcriptome Analysis, Jibin Zhang, Carl J. Schmidt, Susan J. Lamont Jan 2016

Distinct Cardiac Responses To Heat Stress Between Two Broiler Lines Identified By Transcriptome Analysis, Jibin Zhang, Carl J. Schmidt, Susan J. Lamont

Jibin Zhang

Prolonged exposure to high temperature can significantly increase metabolism, depress appetite, reduce meat production and raise mortality in broilers. Because the cardiovascular system plays an important role to dissipate heat and transport oxygen, strong cardiac function is indispensable for birds to survive under heat stress. However, due to small hearts relative to body weight, modern broilers have high risk of heart failure at high temperature.
In this study, a Ross 708 line (modern broilers) and a Heritage broiler line (relaxed selection since the 1950s) were subjected to heat stress at 35℃  for 7 hours/day from 21 to 42 days posthatch …

Timelapse Data - Gm Imaging Cytometer Needs Stitching Part 2 Of 2, George Mcnamara

Timelapse data - GM imaging cytometer needs stitching part 2 of 2

Imaging challenge: align multiple time series over time to overcome "stage slop" in the imaging cytometer used in this experiment.

http://works.bepress.com/gmcnamara/53 (previous) and http://works.bepress.com/gmcnamara/54 (this)

are zip files containing 8-bit stacks (MetaMorph multiplane TIFF files) acquired on an imaging cytometer.

"53" is the brightfield data, raw and automatic aligned stacks in MetaMorph (Apps menu, MM7.8.6). "54" is GFP fluorescence, raw and automatic aligned stacks in MetaMorph (Apps menu, MM7.8.6). The GFP fluorescence decreases over time due to photobleaching. GFP disappears from cells when they die (soluble GFP diffusing …

Pubspectra To Do Data, George Mcnamara

George McNamara

PubSpectra raw data that I had in my "to do" folder to add to the PubSpectra data set but never did.

PubSpectra has over 2000 spectra in it (last updated 2006) in Excel "big file" format - the XLSX file inside the zip file at

http://works.bepress.com/gmcnamara/9/

Anyone is welcome to add and organize new data yourselves. I used Un-Scan-It from Silk Scientific (www.silkscientific.com).

More importantly, I strongly adopting my PubSpectra format of 1 nm wavelength intervals, with the row number corresponding to nm. For example, 400 nm data appears in row 400.

Increasing numbers of fat cells in adipose tissue are attributed to proliferation of preadipocytes or immature adipocytes in the early stages as well as adipogenic differentiation in the later stages of adipogenesis. Although both events are involved in the increase in fat cell numbers, they are contrary to each other in that the former requires cell cycle activity whereas the latter requires cell cycle withdrawal. Therefore, appropriate regulation of cell cycle inhibition is critical to adipogenesis.
To explore the important cell cycle inhibitors and study their expression in adipogenesis, a strategy was adopted that combined the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) …
