The Wine Spectator Grand Award was presented in 1992 to Phillip DeVito and the Salishan Lodge in Gleneden Beach, Oregon. The Grand Award is the highest award given by the magazine and is for "one of the greatest wine lists in the world." DeVito was the maître d’hôtel and cellar master for the fine dining and wine program at Salishan for 22 years and won this award every year from 1983-1994. As of 2014, these are the only Grand Awards ever won by any person or entity in Oregon.

The Oregon Wine Advisory Board (now known as the Oregon Wine Board) presented this award of distinction to Salishan Lodge in 1992 for "Outstanding Sales and Promotion of Oregon Wine." Phillip DeVito was the maître d’hôtel and cellar master for the fine dining and wine program at Salishan (in Gleneden Beach, Oregon) during that time and was in charge of building and promoting the resort's extensive wine collection.
