This project was designed to set up a course which would allow Australian wheat growers and their partners to get closer to the markets that buy their wheat in order to learn more about some of the quality issues that affect the end products. This form of education should assist the wheat industry to move with these changing markets to lean more about them and build some supply chain linkages. This will also help improve grower responsiveness to changing market needs and increase the production of quality wheat.

Estimation Of Inheritance Of Some Agronomical Characters In Common Wheat By Diallel Cross Analysis, Okan Şener, Mehmet Kilinç, Tacetti̇n Yağbasanlar

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

This study was conducted to determine the genetic structure of a population which included six common wheat cultivars or lines and crosses of half diallel cultivars or lines. It was concluded that the epistatic effect was significant for a weight of 1000 grains and yield per plant, while the additive effect was significant for period of maturity, the number of spikelets per head, and the number of kernels per hear. The dominance effect was found in yield per plant. A partial dominance effect was found in other char-acters. It was found that at least 4 pairs of genes were effective …

The interactive effects of vernalization, photoperiod and light intensity on the length of the apex or spike and main shoot, and the diameter of the main shoot of five different wheat ( Triticum aestivumL.) cultivars (Çukurova-86, Atay-85, Lancer, Haymana-79 and Bezostaya-1) having different biological characters were investigated. The research was carried out in four independent experiments, which were the combinations of two different photoperiods (12 and 16 h.d .-1 ) and light intensities (200 µmol m -2 s -1 and 500 µmol m -2 s -1 PFD) with different vernalization periods. This circular is a progress report of variety trials conducted by personnel of the Agronomy Department and the South Central, West Central and Panhandle Research and Extension Centers and their associated agricultural laboraties. The 2000 estimated winter wheat yield for Nebraska was a 36 bushels per acre from 1,750,000 harvested acres. The total production of winter wheat for the state was 63,000,000 bushels. This circular reports data from winter wheat trials conducted throughout Nebraska. Entries included varieties or hybrids and promising experimental strains from Nebraska and surrounding states and private breeders. This was the ninetenth year for privately developed varieties. …

Stripe and leaf rusts, tan spot and Septoria leaf blotch comprise the four primary foliar diseases of wheat in the central Great Plains. In eastern and south central Nebraska leaf rust and Septoria leaf blotch are common, and in the wheat-fallow-wheat regions of western Nebraska, tan spot is an important foliar disease. Stripe rust occurs statewide.
