A large proportion of the land area of the United States is in grass. With the increasing interest in soil and moisture conservation and flood control, the intake of water from rainfall continues to be an important question in connection with grassland management. As has been shown by numerous investigations, many factors affect the rate of intake of water by soils. Among these are the type of soil, character of the rainfall, and the condition of the surface.
