I. The utilization of nitrogen, calcium, and phosphorus was studied with two lots of growing chicks by means of growth and body-analysis experiments. One lot had calcium added to the ration in the form of sulfate and the second received calcium carbonate, the additions being made on an equivalent calcium basis so that the experimental variable was the source of the calcium. 2. 1. The effect of adding to a basal ration a protein concentrate consisting of meat scraps alone was compared with one made up of a mixture of meat scraps, fish meal, and dried buttermilk by means of growth and body-analysis experiments. 2. The size of a dairy cow is important from the standpoint of feed consumption and economy of production and also as an indication of the expected size of offspring. The ultimate disposal of dairy cattle is for beef, and the measure of returns is based upon size and condition. A method for the determination of the approximate weights of dairy females, where scales are not available, is needed. Measurements of dairy cattle which show development and skeletal growth by ages in relationship to weight are presented here for four different dairy breeds.

There was a small increase in the nitrogen content of the chicks fed the animal protein concentrate, but no differences appeared between lots with respect to their content of calcium and phosphorus. 3. In the dairy industry increasing attention is being paid to the question of quality of products. The well established system of buying and selling butter and cheese on the basis of quality by score or grade is practiced in the principal markets of the world. The other dairy products, while not marketed by score, are receiving more and more attention in this respect. As more information becomes available and the judging better standardized, other dairy products will doubtless be sold by grade.

Gizzard-worms of poultry, Cheiloapirura hamulosa, are nematodes occurring in the gizzards of chickens and turkeys.
Summary and Conclusions
Previous to this report the carriers for the gizzard-worm in Hawaii were unknown. Recent investigations by the writer have shown that the flour beetle, Tenebroides nana, and the sand hopper, Orchestia platensis, collected from poultry farms in the Territory of Hawaii have been found naturally infested with the infective larvae of the poultry gizzard-worm, Cheilospirura hamulosa. Out of 8 laboratory-raised chickens to which there were fed about 2,300 grasshoppers that had been collected in an endemic gizzard-worm area, …
