The Application Of A Phosphorus Budget Model Estimating The Carrying Capacity Of Kesikköprü Dam Lake, Serap Pulatsü Jan 2003

The Application Of A Phosphorus Budget Model Estimating The Carrying Capacity Of Kesikköprü Dam Lake, Serap Pulatsü

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The aim of this study was to estimate the carrying capacity of Kesikköprü Dam Lake, Ankara, where cage farms for the intensive culture of rainbow trout are located. For this purpose Dillon and Rigler's phosphorus budget model was applied in a series of steps and the carrying capacity of the lake was found to be 3335 tonnes per year. This estimated value was about 10 times higher than the present production level of the lake. It seems possible to orientate the fish culture in cages in inland waters by using the phosphorus budget model recommended in this study.

Comparison Of The Growth Performance And Mortality In Abant Trout (Salmo Trutta Abanticus Tortonese, 1954) And Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus Mykiss Walbaum, 1792) Under Farming Conditions, İrfan Uysal, Ati̇lla Alpbaz Jan 2002

Comparison Of The Growth Performance And Mortality In Abant Trout (Salmo Trutta Abanticus Tortonese, 1954) And Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus Mykiss Walbaum, 1792) Under Farming Conditions, İrfan Uysal, Ati̇lla Alpbaz

Turkish Journal of Zoology

This experiment was conducted between 15th February 2000 (day 1) and 31st January 2001 (day 350) at the DSI-Gölköy Fish Production Station, Bolu (Turkey). Abant trout larvae obtained from eggs of wild Abant trout broodstocks in Lake Abant and rainbow trout larvae obtained from eggs of the hatchery broodstocks in Gölköy Fish Production Station were used. Trials I and II involved eight groups (four Abant and rainbow trout experimental groups, and four Abant and rainbow trout parallel groups). A total of 1784 larvae was used in both the trials. At the end of the experiment, although the mean wet weight …

The Effects Of Acute Stress On Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus Mykiss), Ayşegül Kubi̇lay, Gülşen Uluköy Jan 2002

The Effects Of Acute Stress On Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus Mykiss), Ayşegül Kubi̇lay, Gülşen Uluköy

Turkish Journal of Zoology

The physiological effects of acute stressors (transport, handling, netting and confinement) on rainbow trout in an aquaculture system were investigated. Serum cortisol level, serum glucose and lysozyme activity were determined in rainbow trout stressed by acute stressors, and compared with those of unstressed (control) fish. Serum cortisol, glucose levels and lysozyme activity were significantly higher(P

Histological Study In The Digestive Tract On Larval Development Of Rainbow Trout ( Oncorhynchus Mykiss, Walbaum, 1792), Mustafa Sarieyyüpoğlu, Aydin Gi̇rgi̇n, Si̇bel Şi̇mşek Jan 2000

Histological Study In The Digestive Tract On Larval Development Of Rainbow Trout ( Oncorhynchus Mykiss, Walbaum, 1792), Mustafa Sarieyyüpoğlu, Aydin Gi̇rgi̇n, Si̇bel Şi̇mşek

Turkish Journal of Zoology

In this study the development of the digestive tract of newly hatched rainbow trout ( Oncorhynchus mykiss) larvae were examined. The digestive tract was attached to the anus a few hours after hatching. On the second day their mouths were open and the differentiation in the esophagus started. Mucosal folds contained a large quantity of cubic epithelium and goblet cells. Goblet cells were stained positively with Alcian blue and also stained negatively with P.A.S. The wall of the esophagus consisted of a circular muscle layer and a thin tunica serosa. It was possible to see a thin longitudinal muscle layer …

Effect Of Natural And Synthetic Carotenoid Sources On Pigmentation Of Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus Mykiss), Sebahatti̇n Ergün, Muammer Erdem Jan 2000

Effect Of Natural And Synthetic Carotenoid Sources On Pigmentation Of Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus Mykiss), Sebahatti̇n Ergün, Muammer Erdem

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

A feeding trial was conducted to assess the effects of supplementing the diets of commercial-size rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) with red pepper as a natural carotenoid source and synthetic astaxanthin. Diets without carotenoid supplemented (control) and containing 3% or 6% red pepper and 0.05% "Carophyll Pink 8%" were given to groups 1-4, respectively. Rainbow trout, with weight of groups between 470 and 483 g, were fed four different diets for 45 days. At the end of the experiment, the trout showed an average body weight increase of 157.599 g, 110.729 g, 136.641 g and 190.091 g, and feed conversion averaged …

Arginase Occurrence, Development And Distribution In Various Organs Of Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus Mykiss), Sema Temi̇zer Ozan, Mi̇ne Eri̇şi̇r, Nai̇m Sağlam Jan 1999

Arginase Occurrence, Development And Distribution In Various Organs Of Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus Mykiss), Sema Temi̇zer Ozan, Mi̇ne Eri̇şi̇r, Nai̇m Sağlam

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Arginase (L-arginine amidinohydrolase; E.C. 3.5.3.1) enzyme activity levels in sperm, egg, fertilized egg and larvae (up to 25 weeks) of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) taken from Fırat University, Faculty of Fisheries, Cip Fish Breeding Station were observed weekly. When the organs of rainbow trout were dissected under microscope, enzyme distribution in organs were investigated. Arginase activities in sperm, egg, fertilized egg and rainbow trout (up to 3 weeks) were at unmeasurable level. Increase of enzyme activity was observed in fish after third week. Between the three and twenty five weeks of larvae arginase activity levels were between 0.018 ± 0.001 …
