Morphologic Deformation In A Ray: A Case Report, Gülnur Meti̇n, Akin Türker İlkyaz, H. Tuncay Kinacigi̇l

This study presents the data from a morphologic deformation diagnosis of a speckled ray (Raja polystigma Regan, 1923) individual which was sampled from İzmir Bay. Deformation was located on the head part of the specimen and no deformation was observed in other body regions.

Zoeae, megalopae, and early crab stages of Callinectes sapidus Rathbun, 1896 were described from the northern Gulf of Mexico (nGOM). Observations during this study were based on larvae reared in the laboratory through the early crab stages and on megalopae and early crab stages collected in the wild. Gulf of Mexico data are compared with similar information for the southeast Atlantic coast of the United States. Size and setation of C. sapidus larvae reared from nGOM stocks were different than those in published descriptions of larvae reared from Atlantic populations. Orthotomicus tridentatus Eggers, 1921 (Col.: Curculionidae, Scolytinae) is the most important forest pest of cedar stands in Turkey. Yet, very little is known about its distribution and biology. Therefore, the distribution and biological characteristics of O. tridentatus were studied in the Taurus Mountains in southern Turkey between 2006 and 2008. It was determined to be a species common to all cedar forests. The length of adults was between 2.5 and 3.9 mm and the main galleries were 'S' shaped. The morphology and infraciliature of 4 haptorid ciliates obtained from alkaline soil habitats in Van, Turkey, were investigated: Pseudoholophrya terricola Berger, Foissner & Adam, 1984, Paraenchelys wenzeli Foissner, 1984, Armatoenchelys geleii (Foissner, 1981), and Enchelyodon nodosus Berger, Foissner & Adam, 1984. The descriptions were based on live observations and silver impregnated specimens and morphometry. The main morphological characteristics of these species are similar to those described in the literature. Pollen And Seed Morphology Of The Genus Hesperis L. (Brassicaceae) In Turkey, Münevver Pinar, Ahmet Duran, Tali̇p Çeter, G. Ni̇lhan Tuğ

Pollen and seed morphology were examined in 35 specimens representing 25 Turkish species of the taxonomically complex genus Hesperis L. by light and scanning electron microscopes. Three main types and 2 subtypes were recognized based on the seed coat surface, pollen shape, and exine sculpturing. The seed coat ornamentation of Type I was ocellate, and pollen shape was oblate-spheroidal. While Type II was represented by reticulate seed coat and prolate-spheroidal pollen shape, Type III had tuberculate seed coat. This study revealed that both palynological and seed morphological characters are of significant importance in the taxonomy of the genus.
