The Effects Of Gibberellic Acid, Smoke Water, And Cold Stratification On The Germination Of Native Perennial Seed, Zyreasha Tippins Aug 2021

The Effects Of Gibberellic Acid, Smoke Water, And Cold Stratification On The Germination Of Native Perennial Seed, Zyreasha Tippins

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

In this study, I evaluated the germination rates of twenty native plant species and their response to cold stratification as well as four chemical solution treatments—water (control), gibberellic acid, smoke water, and gibberellic acid with smoke water. Seeds were evaluated and counted twice a week. Of the twenty evaluated species, sixteen had germination rates over 3% or 1 seed out of 30. Stratification increased germination by 54% when compared to the control. For chemical treatments, gibberellic acid and gibberellic acid with smoke water were significantly different from the control and increased germination by an average of 47% and 48%, respectively. …

Endogenous Gibberellins And Abscisic Acid-Metabolites: Their Role For During Flower Budabscission And Embryo Development In Pistachio, Muhammet Ali̇ Gündeşli̇ Jan 2020

Endogenous Gibberellins And Abscisic Acid-Metabolites: Their Role For During Flower Budabscission And Embryo Development In Pistachio, Muhammet Ali̇ Gündeşli̇

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

This study was carried out to determine the effect of different growth periods and possible role of gibberellins (GAs) and abscisic acid (ABA) metabolites on the alternate bearing of the pistachio (Pistacia vera L.). For this purpose, the levels of GAs and ABA in the panicles and nuts of the trees during flower bud abscission and embryo development were analyzed in the crop "on" year. The results showed significant differences and changes in ABA and GAs among the tissues and periods investigated. Dihydrophaseic acid (DPA) and GA19 were the dominant ABA and GAs in the pistachio concentrates analyzed in this …

IGC Proceedings (1993-2023)

One way to multiply genetically desirable plants in a more uniform manner is to use vegetative propagation, such as using plant cuttings. This technique multiplies a single plant into several, in an easy low-cost system (Fachinello et al. 2005), so it is useful in plant breeding. This technique may be enhanced through the use of hormonal regulators, with indolebutyric acid (IBA) being most frequently used, because of its stability in hydroalcoholic solution, low sensitivity to biological degradation and good establishment of adventitious roots (Fachinello et al. 1995). In spite of its large-scale use for fruit production, the technique …

Studying seed dormancy and its consequent effect can provide important information for vegetation restoration and management. The present study investigated seed dormancy, seedling emergence and seed survival in the soil seed bank of Stipa bungeana, a grass species used in restoration of degraded land on the Loess Plateau in northwest China. Dormancy of fresh seeds was determined by incubation of seeds over a range of temperatures in both light and dark. Seed germination was evaluated after mechanical removal of palea and lemma (hulls), chemical scarification and dry storage. Fresh and one-year-stored seeds were sown in the field, and seedling …

Plant Cytoskeleton: Della Connects Gibberellins To Microtubules, Ram Dixit Jun 2013

Plant Cytoskeleton: Della Connects Gibberellins To Microtubules, Ram Dixit

Biology Faculty Publications & Presentations

A new study reveals that DELLA proteins directly interact with the prefoldin complex, thus regulating tubulin subunit availability in a gibberellin-dependent manner. This finding provides a mechanistic link between the growth-promoting plant hormone gibberellin and cortical microtubule organization.

The Role Of Oswrky71 And Its Interacting Proteins In Seed Germination And Early Growth Of Cereal Grains, Margaret Ja Shin May 2013

The Role Of Oswrky71 And Its Interacting Proteins In Seed Germination And Early Growth Of Cereal Grains, Margaret Ja Shin

UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones

During seed germination and early seedling growth, complex molecular and physiological events occur in rice (Oryza sativa) and other cereal grains. As the seed transitions to vegetative tissue, it responds to both favorable and unfavorable environmental conditions and is vulnerable to attack by predation and disease. Although seeds are relatively small and tender in size, extensive and sophisticated molecular networks enables the immobile seed to grow, survive and adapt in its environment. One of the networks I am interested in is in the crosstalk between the gibberellin (GA) and abscisic acid (ABA) signaling pathways. These pathways are interesting because they …
