In Vitro High Frequency Regeneration Through Apical Shoot Proliferation Of Hemianthus Callitrichoides `Cuba' - A Multipurpose Ornamental Aquatic Plant, Surendra Barpete, Sancar Fati̇h Özcan, Muhammad Aasim, Sebahatti̇n Özcan

Turkish Journal of Biology

Hemianthus callitrichoides 'Cuba' is an ornamental aquatic plant used in water gardens and phytoremediation. A protocol for its rapid and reproducible shoot organogenesis from apical shoot explants was developed. Optimum culture conditions for shoot proliferation were tested in MS media containing different concentrations of 6-($\gamma$,$\gamma$-dimethylallylamino)purine (2iP), 6-benzylaminopurine (BAP), 1-phenyl-3-1,2,3-thiadiazol-5-yl urea (TDZ), and gibberellic acid (GA3). Plant growth regulators significantly (P ≤ 0.001) affected the diameter, area, and fresh weight of shoot clumps. On the basis of plant growth, the maximum shoot diameter (3.06 cm), area (6.12 cm), and clump weight (2.85 g) of apical shoots were achieved on MS medium …

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The aim of this study was to investigate the presence of Flavobacterium psychrophilum and to examine the in vitro and in vivo efficacy of enrofloxacin (ENR), doxycycline (DOX), and florfenicol (FFC) treatment in rainbow trout fry (Oncorhynchus mykiss Walbaum) against F. Psychrophilum. A total of 220 naturally infected rainbow trout fry were examined and 26 bacterial isolates were phenotypically and genotypically identified. Minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of ENR, DOX, and FFC were determined. ENR was the most active, with an MIC for 90% of the isolates (MIC90) of 4 µg/mL. DOX was less active, with an MIC90 of 32 µg/mL …

Evaluation Of The Genotoxic Or Mutagenic Effects Of Thermal Stress On Cultured Human Lymphocytes, Hasan Basri̇ İla, Mehmet Topaktaş, Mehmet Arslan, Mehmet Büyükleyla, Erman Sali̇h İsti̇fli̇

Turkish Journal of Biology

This study was performed to determine the cytogenetic effects of short-term thermal stress in human cultured lymphocytes. Experimental heat shock (39 °C) was performed alone or with the addition of mitomycin C (MMC) to determine the synergistic or antagonistic effects of heat shock on genotoxicity induced by MMC. In this study, during culture periods of 72 h, human peripheral blood lymphocytes were exposed to heat shock for specified durations (30, 60, 120, and 240 min) 24 or 48 h before harvest. According to our results, the selected temperatures did not show genotoxic or mutagenic effects. In summary, the heat shock …
