Insecta Mundi
The pyrgine genus Porphyrogenes Watson, 1893 (Hesperiidae) is discussed, especially as it occurs in central Rondônia, Brazil. Of eleven species of Porphyrogenes found in Rondônia, four (P. specularis, P. convexus, P. sparus, and P. spadix) are described as new species. Biological details of the genus are discussed. An additional five new species of Porphyrogenes (P. spina, P. sporta, P. splendidus, P. simulator, and P. speciosus) are described from elsewhere. Porphyrogenes cervinus (Plötz, 1883), new synonym of Porphyrogenes ferruginea (Plötz, 1883), reinstated status, is raised from a subspecies of Porphyrogenes despecta (Butler, 1870) to species-level. Porphyrogenes omphale …

It is characterized by a long, asymmetrical perithecium with an oblique apex and a pale-colored lower wall, a slender, evenly tapered receptacle with cylindrical cell I and II and trapezoidal cell IV, well developed appendages with black septa concentrated in the basal portion of the appendage system, and especially by black septa on the distal end of cell g. Laboulbenia asiatica, which was described from an Asian carabid---"Casnonia sp."---in 1899 and was illustrated in 1908 by Thaxter, is reviewed and compared …

Laboulbeniales On Semiaquatic Heteroptera. A New Species Of Triceromyces (Ascomycota, Laboulbeniales) On Microvelia (Heteroptera, Veliidae) From Spain, Sergio Santamaria
Aliso: A Journal of Systematic and Floristic Botany
A new species of fungal genus Triceromyces (Laboulbeniales) is described: Triceromyces benjaminii. The description is based on several thalli found on the insect host Microvelia pygmaea (Heteroptera, Veliidae), collected in two localities from SE Spain. Characteristics of male and female thalli of this dioecious species are discussed and compared with other dioecious taxa. The characteristics of male thalli require some adjustment in generic limits. This is the first species of Triceromyces known to parasitize a species of Microvelia, a semiaquatic heteropteran genus. The new species is described and illustrated with line drawings and photographs. A table collates information …

Review Of The Genus Microchilus Blanchard (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Rutelinae: Geniatini), Mary Liz Jameson
University of Nebraska State Museum: Entomology Papers
The Brazilian scarab beetle genus Microchilus Blanchard (Rutelinae: Geniatini) is reviewed. Based on examination of type specimens, Microchilus beckeri Martínez is transferred to the genus Leucothyreus becoming L. beckeri (Martínez), new combination; Leucothyreus bucki Machatschke is a new junior synonym of L. beckeri (Martínez). Microchilus is limited to two species, M. beckeri (Martínez) and a new species, Microchilus rodmani Jameson, here described. Characters that circumscribe the genus, biology, and species distribution are discussed.
A Taxonomic Study Of The Genus Acris And The Status Of Acris Crepitans Blanchardi (Harper), Blanchard's Cricket Frog, In Southern Ohio And Western West Virginia, Amy M. Hamilton
Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
Distributions of Acris crepitans and Acris gryllus cover most of the eastern United States with some overlap, and the subspecies Acris crepitans blanchardi and Acris crepitans crepitans also occur sympathric in parts of their ranges. My study analyzed 15 morphological characteristics of A. c. blanchardi, A. c. crepitans, and A. g. gryllus using Canonical Discriminate Analysis. Results support current taxonomy, showing the most separation between A. crepitans and A. gryllus and some overlap between A. c. blanchardi and A. c. crepitans. Sexual dimorphism was seen only in A. c. blanchardi and A. c. crepitans with females being larger …

The Equidae (the horse, Equus caballus, the ass, Equus asinus, zebras and their hybrids) are hosts to a great variety of nematode parasites, some of which can cause significant morbidity or mortality if individual hosts are untreated. Worldwide the nematode parasites of horses belong to 7 suborders, 12 families, 29 genera and 83 species. The great majority (19 of 29 genera and 64 of 83 species) are members of the family Strongylidae, which includes the most common and pathogenic nematode parasites of horses. Only the Strongylidae are included in this treatise.
The Strongylidae (common name strongylids) of horses …

The Pholcid Spiders Of Micronesia And Polynesia (Araneae, Pholcidae), Joseph A. Beatty, James W. Berry, Bernhard A. Huber
Scholarship and Professional Work - LAS
Records of pholcid spiders from Micronesia and Polynesia are presented, along with records from Indonesia and parts of Melanesia. Nineteen species representing eleven genera are included. An illustrated key for Pacific pholcids is provided. Two species and one genus are not yet known from Micronesia or Polynesia, but are included in the key because they may occur there. Seven species are widespread synanthropic or anthropophilic species, two species are widespread native species, and nine species are endemics of one or several neighboring islands. Distribution maps include only specimens we have seen, not literature records.

The Natural History Of The Egyptian Fruit Bat, Rousettus Aegyptiacus, In Turkey (Mammalia: Chiroptera), İrfan Albayrak, Nursel Aşan, Tarkan Yorulmaz
Turkish Journal of Zoology
Aspects of the ecology, karyology, and taxonomic status of the Egyptian fruit bat, Rousettus aegyptiacus, in the Mediterranean region of Turkey were investigated based on 41 specimens obtained between 1977 and 2003. Distribution, external and cranial morphometrics, pelage coloration, baculum morphology, karyology, colony size, roosting and feeding ecology, and conservation and management issues were recorded. The fruit bat in Turkey is represented by the nominate subspecies, R. a. aegyptiacus. Sexual dimorphism was recorded in pelage coloration and morphometric data. The diploid number of chromosomes (2n) is 36. Records of feeding behavior were obtained from both field and laboratory studies. Seasonal …
