Shellfish Aquaculture Suitability Within Baylor Grounds Of The Lower Rappahannock River, Center For Coastal Resources Management, Virginia Institute Of Marine Science
Shellfish Aquaculture Suitability Within Baylor Grounds Of The Lower Rappahannock River, Center For Coastal Resources Management, Virginia Institute Of Marine Science
Reports
Should the Commonwealth of Virginia ever consider a regulated expansion of the aquaculture industry to public Baylor ground, timely information regarding the productivity of these grounds and the ability to support aquaculture would be highly desirable information. In this scenario, public bottom will be opened to private shellfish growers in the Commonwealth under what will likely be a tightly monitored regulation. The demise in productivity of natural oyster beds within Baylor Grounds is well known. However, there is no comprehensive resource that addresses whether Baylor Grounds would be suitable for aquaculture. This study uses Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to model …

Reports
The Virginia shellfish industry has historically been an important element of the state’s economy. After long-term downward trends in the harvest of wild stocks, clam and oyster production from shellfish aquaculture has been growing. This report provides an analysis of the possible ways to support and enhance this expansion through a variety of shellfish policy options. Three general classes of policy alternatives were considered: 1) state policy to increase private grounds available for shellfish production, 2) state research and development programs, and 3) various financial incentives to increase production. In general, the availability of suitable lease ground is not a …

Finfish Aquaculture In Western Australia. Final Esd Risk Assessment Report For Sea-Cage And Land-Based Aquaculture., Department Of Fisheries Western Australia
Fisheries management papers
The Western Australian Department of Fisheries is responsible for the management of aquaculture in WA and is committed to implementing ESD. These principles are contained within the objectives of the Fish Resources Management Act 1994 and the Department is keen to demonstrate both to the Government and the broader community that these principles are being achieved. The Department developed a policy statement in 2002 - “Policy for the Implementation of Ecologically Sustainable Development for Fisheries and Aquaculture within Western Australia” (Fletcher 2002) – that described its direction on incorporating ESD within fisheries and aquaculture management.
Using the ESD Framework for …

Stocking Strategies For Production Of Litopenaeus Vannamei (Boone) In Amended Freshwater In Inland Ponds, Bartholomew W. Green
Stocking Strategies For Production Of Litopenaeus Vannamei (Boone) In Amended Freshwater In Inland Ponds, Bartholomew W. Green
United States Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Research Service / University of Nebraska-Lincoln: Faculty Publications
The performance of the Pacific white shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei (Boone) under various stocking strategies was evaluated in earthen ponds filled with freshwater amended with major ions. Six 0.1-ha earthen ponds located in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, USA, were filled with freshwater in 2003 and 2004, and potassium magnesium sulfate added to provide 50 mg K+ L-1 and stock salt added to provide 0.5 g L-1 salinity. In 2003, three ponds either were stocked with PL15 shrimp (39 PL m-2) for 125 d of grow out or with PL25 shrimp for a 55-d (23 PL …

Evaluation Of Aerial Cluster Sampling Of Double-Crested Cormorants On Aquaculture Ponds In Mississippi, Brian S. Dorr, Loren W. Burger Jr., Scott C. Barras
Evaluation Of Aerial Cluster Sampling Of Double-Crested Cormorants On Aquaculture Ponds In Mississippi, Brian S. Dorr, Loren W. Burger Jr., Scott C. Barras
United States Department of Agriculture Wildlife Services: Staff Publications
Concern over increasing numbers of double-crested cormorants (Phalacrocorax auritus) and their impacts on channel catfish (Ictalurus punctatus) aquaculture has resulted in increased need for quantitative information to develop and evaluate depredation management efforts. We evaluated aerial surveys in a stratified cluster sampling (SCS) design to estimate and monitor abundance of cormorants on catfish aquaculture ponds in the Yazoo River Basin of Mississippi, USA (hereafter Yazoo Basin). Twice monthly abundance estimates and coefficient of variation during winter averaged 8,128 (n = 29, SE = 1,233) and 33% (n = 29, SE = 0.02), respectively. Counts of cormorants …
